Worst DSB Performance by Steve Augeri.

Steve A. kept the torch alive for Journey even from a flickering distant otherwise there will be no JSS and Arnel.
He fulfilled what was required of him and did it with grace... a talented and a great man.
This video might not do him justice and it pains to see such a good man struggles and gives his last best shot for the fans. He did it anyway..same as Arnel during the last stretch of this 08 Tour..he is struggling but kept on going..flu, acid reflux or what ever it was. That is why we all love and long for Journey..its every mans tenacity and dedication to do his goddamn best everyday and everynight of their performance..no gimmick no fanfare just Journey music from start to finish..
I just hope that the current line up will realized that fans will stick to them no matter what and just learn to slow down a little,,and for Arnel we will understand if he will step it down a half key lower just to preserve his voice and just go on with his natural voice range..

Agree 100%!! And let's not forget that this is far from a pro-shot clip. I watched clips from the show I saw at the NYS Fair this summer with Arnel the next morning, and it didn't sound anywhere as good as it did live. This is maybe not Augeri's best performance by a long shot, but it's not that bad.

Anyway, I had to speak up to agree with this post. I have said this ad nauseum on this board, but Steve Augeri walked into one of the most unenviable spots in rock and roll, having to fill a legend's shoes, and did so with style and grace. He gave all he had, and was nothing but a class act to every fan he met. I have never heard one negative word from anyone who has met him. And the man has talent. He was tremendous on "Arrival" and for several tours. His voice is back, and I can't wait until TS II finally comes out.

You see this all of the time in sports. A hall of fame player retires and the guy that replaces him has enourmous shoes to fill. A lot of times, it ends up with the replacement doing a solid job, but not at the level of the legend. After a while, the fans give up on the replacement because he isn't the legend, and somewhere down the road - though it may be years later - a new legend comes along or the fans lower their expectations.

The problem is you can't replicate the era that Perry sang in. Rock was in vogue in the early eighties. There are over 50 million copies of Journey CD's out there. That style of music isn't in anymore to the point where a new rock album is going to go 5 times platinum. Journey also had a dozen hits on the Hot 100. Charts. They just can't duplicate that immense success. Time is not on their side. To make any money they really have to live off the past (legacy of Perry). 12 Perry songs against 3 Revelation songs at a concert promoting Revelation proves it.

Augeri a tenor??? I'm no expert, but perhaps one of our resident singers can weigh in on this. I don't think Augeri was even in the neighborhood of being a tenor! Arnel is clearly a tenor but Augeri wasn't close, which is why he struggled more often than not, when trying to sing in a range that he wasn't cut out to be singing in!

Well, as I said in my post, I am no expert. I simply made the observation that Augeri was NEVER anywhere near Perry or Pineda when it came to his range. Because of that, I simply assumed he was not a tenor. If Augeri is truly a tenor, then it seems to be that he needs to be re-classified!

disagree - on both of them he was still singing tenor, but at the lower end of his range. What most people forget is that on the early stuff, Steve wasn't singing tenor a lot of the time, he was singing countertenor, which basically means he was singing alto, occasionally even soprano.

Do you believe Augeri is a tenor? If Augeri really is a tenor, I guess I can't say that he was singing out of his range, when he was singing with Journey. That also means that he was far more dreadful than I ever accused him of being! I, at least allowed for the excuse that the music he was singing was written for a tenor, and that he wasn't one!

Don't know his singing well enough to be sure; from what I've heard, I'd say a tenor who can sing baritone, but like I said, a lot of the Perry stuff was actually written for a countertenor. You've got the same theory still, really, just bump it a vocal range up, pretty much.
