I had the news on this morning as always and I noticed that they (media) are barely (almost not at all) using the names of the
victims. Every time they talk about it, they call them "Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother" and then "Jennifer Hudson's nephew". Not much about the mother of the boy either.
In any other normal news report you get two things... the victim's name(s) and the suspect's name(s). But the ONLY thing I'm hearing is "Jennifer Hudson's..." I wouldn't even know the mother's or brother's names had I not read one of the online stories, and that was two days ago, so I've already forgotten them... but 2 mornings in a row watching the news, I never once heards their names. The only name I've heard with any consistancy is the little boy, Julian.
I'm not sure why this bothers me so much, but for one I find it somewhat disrespectful. We have 3 murdered people here and all we hear about is "Jennifer Hudson" and how her appearances and video shoot are now on hold. They don't even use the victims names - I mean, that's just wrong.
Another thing I heard this morning was that auditions for the upcoming stage production of
Dreamgirls have been postponed for 4 weeks because it is "related" to Hudson's career. I don't mean to sound unfeeling here, but is that really necessary? She has nothing to do with that production. Just because she was in the movie version (
two years ago), they're stopping auditions?
I'm not being cold and unfeeling about the situation, let's be clear. Its the MEDIA I'm annoyed with. They followed her to the Cook County ME's office and waited around for a statement about what happened inside when the family identified the boy and then they described Jennifer's reaction. Seriously, is this necessary? Bad shit happens to celebs too, can we just leave these people alone to deal with it, and if we're going to have it reported, why can't it be about the family and not about Jennifer Hudson just because she's an actress.
Ok rant over.
