Well, if Elton and Billy are past their prime, why does everyone want Steve Perry to come back? Just joking. :D

To me, Elton is one of my favorite singers of all time. He has a tremendous body of music. And like I said before, vocally he was fantastic in the concert I saw him in. In the concert that I went to years ago with both of them, they were great, but it was an outdoor venue and our seats were bad, so it was frustating because of the sound issue. But when we went down closer for a couple of songs, they were fantastic together. I had never heard Joel in concert and only owned his greatest hits, but he really is a talented singer and his songs he chose for the concert I loved.

I always thought Elton John was FAR more talented than Billy Joel. I consider Elton John to be a musical legend and don't put Joel on the same level. I also think Elton has more timeless music. Too much of Joel's stuff is cheesy 80's pop music. "Uptown Girl" is one of the absolute gayest songs I've ever heard in my life! It's worse than "Open Arms", and that's really saying something!

John from Boston

Agreed. I love a lot of Elton John's music, but I never could stand Billy Joel. There is not one song of his that I ever liked. He sounds like an Elton John wanne-be.

8)
I think their styles are not the same at all.B J wrote a song for his daughter called Lullabye it was a beutifully written, well thought out song.plus he used to plug Christy Brinkley, that says something there

I agree, Steve. Other than that they both play what can loosely be called "piano-rock," I don't think there's much comparison overall. Songs like "I Go To Extremes," "Matter of Trust," "Allentown," and "We Didn't Start The Fire" really don't much resemble EJ at all, for instance.

I think that's the only reason he still tours with Joel. Joel hasn't given it up yet. As soon as he does, it's all over.
lol, then he will tour with Journey.Friga will be his next quest, that wont take long......splat splat

Saw them together on the first tour they did. EJ stole the show. There were rumors then that they weren't getting along and Billy Joel only wanted to do about a 30 minute set, which was fine by me because he was completely over shadowed by Elton. I'd never pay the amount of money they want to see them together again.

My favorite song right now of Elton John's is Last Song Between a Father and his Son. I tear up every time I listen to it. In the other thread I listed him as one of my favorite top ten vocalists of all time. So I will definitely be at this concert.

So I guess Joel has stopped his campaign to single-handedly deforrest Long Island (with has car and bottle propped up in his crotch)??

A friend of mine from college (yes, she was smoking hot) worked at an escort agency in Miami. One of her clients turned out to be a piano man. She said it was creepy.

Trust me you would want it. She has since stopped. I think she only did it shortly after getting out of college to pay off some bills. She definitely has some stories.

Best live Vocal performance I saw was George Michael in 1988, Japan ( yes, even better than Perry). Say what you want, the dude could flat out bring it when performing live.

Yeah I wouldn't argue there, I think George is an amazing singer - in my opinion among the top 5 maybe top 3 greatest singers of all time? easily top 5, a true singer George Michael.

Saw EJ on his solo, kind of unplugged tour in Seattle about 15 years ago. He was SO unpersonable to the audience. It was weird, Diet Coke must've been promoting the tour, but he'd sing a song (just him on piano) then stop. Get up. Walk round the piano. Sit down. Take a drink out of his Diet Coke can sitting on the piano. Make sure the label is facing out. Go to the next song. I don't recall him saying a word to the audience all night.

Next to REO's "High Infidelity" show, it was THE most boring show I've ever seen. Had I not taken my daughter, I would've walked out. Granted, when it's a solo show, I'm not expecting pyrotechnics, but I am expecting a person who looks happy to be there and is gracious to his audience. EJ just seemed cranky and really put upon do do a show. Then, in later years, he just exhibits NO sense of humor and just seems like a bitchy old woman. Hate the guy. Has some great songs (nothing lately that I've heard) but it's tough support someone that clearly doesn't do it for the joy of it.

I saw Billy Joel for the first time sometime around then. His show was great and I wasn't a big fan of his till after the show. Songs like Uptown Girl and Piano Man make me sick, but a lot of his later stuff off of Storm Front and River of Dreams was great, not to mention the Iron Curtain album. I was amazed at how good his show was. His original version of Shameless makes Garth Brookes' version sound like garbage. Great rendition.

Oh yeah, there was also that time when Sam Kinnison was presenting or hosting an awards show, might've been eMpTyV awards, and someone presented Elton with an award (live via satellite) Elton accepted the award and then went on to just bash the Hell out of Kinnison. They actually shut off the audio on his feed because he was being such an ass. Sam was just a comedian. Just jokes Elton. I believe that was the first time I went "dude, you take yourself way too seriously". From then on, I just started hating him more.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Two amazing talents and when you put them together, it's a show you will never forget! If you have never seen this duo....GO! I saw them the last time they went out and was BLOWN....AWAY!!!

Also, I saw George Michael this summer. Say what you want about his personal troubles and issues, it was one of THE best shows I saw this year! He was totally on all night!

George Michael is a great singer. Seriously good. Can't dig his music, but he's gotta great voice. I remember at the Freddie Mercury Tribute show, his was the ONLY good voice there that day. Everyone else blew. GM was spot on.

I think Elton and Billy BOTH saw their best days (from a songwriting standpoint) in the 70's /early 80's. Joel simply hasn't released anything new since RIVER OF DREAMS, and Elton's stuff post 2 LOW 4 ZERO has pretty much all been garbage. ( Is there anyone who DOESN'T head for the beerline when they hear the opening strains of CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE?)

BUT- those of you bashing Billy, I challenge you to go back and listen to his older material. THE STRANGER is as perfect an album as there ever was. Complex, dark, moody, romantic - all rolled into one beautiful piece of work. And 52ND STREET was damn near as good. In the 80's his output was pretty shitty as well, with the exception of THE NYLON CURTAIN- a fabulous, epic album. The sound of a man coming apart at the seams (his divorce from his first wife was looming) GOODNIGHT SAIGON, ROOM OF YOUR OWN, SHE'S RIGHT ON TIME, ALLENTOWN...I could go on, but you get the picture.
