Re-record on My Name Is Earl???

Postby Saint John » Sat Nov 15, 2008 3:22 am

A friend of mine just called me and said that he's pretty sure that at the very end of the show My Name Is Earl they played the re-recorded version of Lights with Arnel on vocals. Did anyone watch this show last night? Or does anyone have the energy to go to NBC.com and watch the end of the episode and reprt back? I'm interested to see if this is true.

You know, I saw it and had it on DVR, but I think my husband erased it. I THOUGHT it might be Arnel too, because it didnt' sound like the original or enough like Perry. I'd love to know. Problem was I kept falling asleep while we were watching it and woke up to the song so I didn't now if I was half asleep or if it was Arnel  Oh, and it wasn't "Lights" it was LTS! Did Arnel even re-record that song???

Bluejeangirl, care to step in here...

(I heard a random Peter Cetera in the background as I was getting ready to go out last night, then I heard random Steve Perry. I walk over to the TV and I'm like, "Am I hearing this? Oh shit, there'll be a thread on MR about this, I know it." :P )

EDIT: ...It didn't sound like Arnel to me... but I've made the mistake of confusing them before... and I did have styling tools around my ears.

Never watched the show but I saw a commercial last night
that listed another Journey re-record on a compilation/remake album...

The Chipmunk's new album lists "Don't Stop Believin'"

  Now I KNOW I was half asleep if I couldn't tell  Whoever produces that show is a Def Lep fan and a classic rock in general fan. They are always plugging all kinds of music from those time eras. I think it's because people my age (40ish) are now the ones making the shows.

That's what I thought.

...Can anyone confirm the random Chicago on the show? Or do I now just aurally hallucinate Cetera?

Wayne. For those of you that were in Virginia at DC Vader's (awesome) bash he was the dude with the shaved head that recorded the Frontiers concert. That bootleg that hit the internet was recorded by Wayne. He's an asshole if that helps jar anyone's memory.

Anybody else noticed when they list the writing credits now (both on the cd & dvd), they pushed SP from the 1st position to last? Could be that's why they didn't want to re-record L-T-S (which was their very 1st Top 20 hit) ... no place to take him down (he was the sole writer).

What is wrong with this next generation???? :) They were the best two albums ever recorded by Journey (albeit the mix/fidelity kinda sucked).

If he's the sole credited writer, would they not need his permission to do that?
(and that would explain why they can't record it, if that's the case)

Yes, "Earl" actually sings that one and now when I hear that song I just think of that and him singing  Kind of like Cartman singing Come Sail Away, it's just never the same again

I do love the Infinity album. But Evolution is my least favorite of the Perry era albums. I do still love it overall, it was still better than 99% of the other albums that were out by other bands that year. But it was nonetheless my least favorite Perry era Journey album.

About 5 or 6 years ago one of the characters on SNL was singing Don't Stop Believin on the show. It took me a while to get that out of my head when I would listen to Journey doing that song.
