I agree with LLL. Even though on the last thread that asked the question, I stated that was his worst vocal performance just because he was rusty from not singing, but then I added he looked extremely handsome. So I would have still been satisfied at the concert. I'm very shallow too .

It just seemed off from the standpoint of being a trio up there without Ross and Steve S. I still wonder if they were asked to perform with them and they were still pissed over being fired for ROR and wouldn't or if they were never even asked to perform with them there.

Jana, Lora posted this a couple pages back about why RV and SS weren't there.

If I remember correctly, the bands were told they were going to play acoustic which is why Ross & Steve Smith weren't there. As it turned out, that wasn't the case but communication wasn't the greatest when this event was being set up.

I don't think it sounds that bad at all...certainly not his best performance, but guess what ...half of steve perry is better than 100% of most artists

I'm not hearing what's so 'awful' about this performance either. Sure - the crowd reaction is pitiful but Journey would have got this reaction in 1981 as well. This is still a far superior performance of these songs to any of the versions I heard with the last three line-ups of the band and that's for sure.

I did not think this was as bad as everyone said. However, this IMO was just a bad idea for them to do period. I know it was a good cause, but Steve should have told them he had a cold or something.

After listening to this I hit youtube to watch the New York 94 Perry stuff. It may have been tuned down but I thought it was pretty darn good. Missing You is one of my all-time Perry vocals and he did a great job. I wish (as do others I am sure) that he would do a bunch of new stuff in the same vein as Missing You. Full of soul and no need for crazy high notes, just the way I like to hear him. For the record, my favorite Perry is ROR Tour raspy Perry. Damn was he good.

I also think Herbie Herbert has got to take some blame for blowing out Perry's voice. He never wanted the machine to stop. It is insane to expect year after year of top notch vocal performances without adequate rest or care....but I digress.

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but a long-time question of mine resurfaced after listening to this performance again for the first time in quite awhile. During that piece between "Faithfully" and "Lights", what the hell does Perry sing right after "oooh we shared, oh shared...."??? I've never been able to fully understand what he says, and I'm usually pretty good at deciphering lyrics. It kind of sounds like "so many things", which would maybe make sense in the song, but I don't think thats it. Anyone?
