Ace Frehley got a Web site... LOL

Postby Ehwmatt » Tue Dec 16, 2008 10:12 pm

WTF is this shit? This brings me back to surfing the Web as a little kid on Prodigy in like 1995. This Web site is hilarious! This wouldn't have been considered a good design even back then, but was very typical of what you'd see back then. LOL

At least it does what it's there for... to have information, news, pics, etc... and doesn't overload the browser with flash/java crap... can't say the same about the Star Trek official movie page... which looks really cool and the animation is awesome but its a pain in the ass to navigate, and really makes most comps go slow as hellllllllllllll. Maybe Ace is trying to be nostalgic or something. Who knows... but my point is that people bitch too much about how websites look anymore. Kinda like people who throw all their dvd's out because everything they watch HAS to be in blu ray HD quality. Well, y'know what I mean... Point being, I've seen much worse websites, my own included!!!

It's hideous, but i'd take it over most official artist pages that are so loaded with flash and graphics that you can't find a damn thing.

Exactly my point. Also, it just went up, so it'll probably get better with time.

Flash is annoying yes, but this is on the "horrifying" end of the spectrum. It's just so poorly done. I'm afraid to look at the source code.

That was awful! Hilariously bad in fact! Up to then the worst website I had seen for a celebrity was the severely under-inspiring official page of Roy Jones Jr, one of the all time greats where boxing is concerned. It is just totally drab - http://www.royjonesjr.com

Frehley's abomination makes Roy's seem like a veritable work of art by comparison!

Ace is actually pretty good with computers, but this site isn't all that inviting... Maybe have a pro do it?

This is my vote for MR understatement of the year.

It is pretty evident that Ace designed his site around the time the internet was first unleashed and he was clearly inspired by either Tron or a bad acid trip - there can be no over reason, surely!

Wow, I love all the bitching this is getting. Sure, its not the most visually stunning website ever, but at least it's functional. People seem to expect sooooo much from everything these days. I'll admit its pretty bad by today's standards appearance-wise, but i have seen much much worse. I've also seen sites that LOOK waaaaay nicer but functionality is complete shit. Bottom line, its a functional website, and I think he just wanted to get a site off the ground to begin with, a "foot-in-the-door", if you will. I am expecting there will be massive visual improvements in the future, especially because it doesn't meet everyone's approval and has been bitched about from here to blabbermouth.net.

It's not really "functional" or user-friendly at all... you have to scroll sideways to see the whole site on lower resolutions (yes people with old monitors are still out there) and many of the menu names are not clear at all, whatever fun he's trying to have with the names aside. Simplicity/functionality is best had in a mostly text-based site, not just in the absence of Flash or fancy bells and whistles.

Ehwmatt is right, it's really not very functional.

I'll use my own site ( http://journeyloaded.com ) as an example of simple but not 1996... coded by a novice, no flash, no Java, no WYSIWYG hell, yet I think you can navigate it easily and it's not an assault on the eyes like his is. I just hope you're right about improvements in the future... unfortunately, presentation does count especially for a celebrity...

Is his site even relevant to anything beyond pushing his new album to be released in January?

What I mean by functional: all the links work, and are in plain sight, also it doesn't take forever for the page to load. So yeah, its functional by my standards, at least. I do agree it's ugly as hell, and the Ace song references as links are a bit odd.

It does suck, but it's also Ace who is doing all the work on the site supposedly and with this being his 1st website I'm guessing he's just trying to get used to working on a website. It is nice to see him have a website for news though.

I looked -- **shudder**

My favorite line: AUTOPLAY="true" CONTROLLER="ture"

I think we know why it doesn't work.
