So, what you're saying is that divorce isn't even allowed? That's interesting. I wouldn't blame it on being Catholic. I grew up in the most Catholic city in America, and as far as I know, the Catholic church frowns upon living in sin and having children without being married.
The Catholic church in the PI have a big influence on government policies. As a matter of fact, two former presidents were kicked out previously and the head of the Catholic church at that time had strongly influenced those events. Any politician who propose a divorce law is commiting political suicide. And yes, the Catholic church strongly encourage partners to get married and to not have children out of wed lock. It still happens though...but you get raised eyebrows from the elders when you live together without being married.
I heard that you had not better leave anyone at the alter or you are in for a big lawsuit. I wonder if you have to get it in writing when you agree to marry.
It's just a rumor, unless the bride was already pregnant and the groom change his mind and leave her at the altar, then he's in big trouble, he will just probably get a good beating from the bride's relatives but i don't think they bring it to the court, unless they are both financially stable and no written agreement when the woman agreed to marry the man, they are more concern about their families reputation and that's all that is matter to them.
