My definition of a great frontman is that if you switched off the sound, would you still find yourself mesmerised by the person. By that definition, many great ‘singers’ wouldn’t get into my top frontmen list – including Perry.

My favourite frontmen, in no particular order and based on performances I’ve seen live over 30 years of concerts, are:-

Freddy Mercury
Dave Lee Roth (the early Van Halen years)
Steve Tyler
JSS
Sammy Hagar (the early years – pre Van Halen)
Bon Scott (AC/DC pre ’79 – obviously!)
Danny Bowes (Thunder)

With the exception of Mercury (who also had a perfect voice), all the above had/have powerful and distinctive but not necessarily pure vocals. What made them great frontmen was sheer charisma, movement on stage and audience engagement. When I watched concerts including these guys I barely noticed anybody else on stage.

I agree with Marty on the definition of a frontman. My original list should have included Freddie Mercury. He was a frontman with such charisma that you didn't even pay attention to the rest of the band.

I'd have to give consideration to Jon Bon Jovi. I'm surprised no one has brought him up.

That's not taking Carla's viewpoint seriously; it IS putting her looks before her opinions. If you were valuing her mind and opinions more than her looks, then you wouldn't have made such a patronising, condescending comment; you would have disagreed if you disagree.
Regardless of whether or not I found it condescending and border-line offensive, Carla obviously did, even though she did what so many of us do when we are faced with this patronising, sexist crap: she laughed it off with good grace. Doesn't change the fact that she was annoyed, and you didn't even have the courtesy to acknowlege that you had pissed her off, you just wrote it off as though her attitude was the problem.
