When Bill Clinton governed like a Republican (NAFTA, Welfare reform et al.) he lost both the Senate, the House, and was still the rented mule of the Right Wing.
Contrast that to FDR, who publicly welcomed the hatred of the "economic royalists", and was re-elected time and again.
There was even a failed White House coup on the part of the monied class.

As others have said, Obama’s first State of the Union address should lay out explicitly, item by item, the crimes of the past eight years.
