OT-How Does This E Mail Make You Feel?

Hi Everyone, Ive been lurking around here for awhile but have not posted anything yet.I hope its ok to jump in here I found this quite interesting That e-mail says pretty much everything I have thought at least once in my adult life. I work at a job where I deal with the worst of the bunch most of the time.Its hard at times to not be alittle racist. I try hard not to be. It seems there is always someone getting in my face about something. Im trying not to ramble on here but i can see the point they are trying to get at with this e-mail. Did that make any sense? Ill shut up now!!

In Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan... its country-ethnicity.... and there's a reason for it... which the US has apparently lost track of. We have no pride in being "American" as a nationality, and have been taught to emphasize our ethnicity 1st. Even those actually born in the USA (which makes them American by default.

I think many of the cultural divides in this country are a direct result of this... from both sides of the ethnic fence. This actually DIVIDES the country... People need to fucking THINK.

I dont understand wht we cannot have "white entertainment tv" or "white history month" and I am not ashamed to say that to my black friends...in fact theyve agreed'd with me here.

I think Jubilee got this right except for her point about Madsplash. The oppression of minorities in this country has a long history. The many minority organizations that have arisen are a direct result of those groups trying to have a little part of the American dream and opportunities that white people already get. Strength in numbers................. I lived in Washington D.C. during the Marches on Washington and I was the minority in an all black school. I'm white. It is very hard to move about under such circumstances, but it gave me an opportunity to feel what it feels like to be a minority and it isn't a comfortable feeling......... After that experience of my own, I always befriended the one or two black kids in my all white schools in California and other parts of the U.S. White people just need to understand that being a minority is not the same experience in the U.S. as being white. We have come a long way, but there is still so much discrimination against minorities and women in all facets of American life. Madsplash was just the messenger, and did not necessarily support the position of the author in his email.......... Maybe some of you don't remember the "REVERSE DISCRIMINATION" case brought about by Alan Bakke at University of California Davis, a white guy that was denied admission to medical school to make way for a black student with poorer grades. Bakkee won!

This started in the 60's and so much was good. I appreciate John Kennedy ! Martin Luther King and others fought for their rights and much came of that was good. But manipultors that could make a political cause ,made their fortunes on stirring the pot. Today education is the key and the change from the southern pre 60's are in many cases sheer success. Many a successful politician still creates political hay by stirring that pot. I think it will take another generation to see it is not race, but lifestyle and education that separates the races. Geez- my doctor and therapist are black. So what ! they are great at what they do because of EDUCATION !

i really have a hard time understanding the purpose of this post (the email) other than to fan the flames of racism. People inherently have a need to protect themselves and be proud of who and what they are; so you draw lines of this race or that race; or the way people are referenced and their differences rather than the commonality of people. you are trying to highlight the differences of people rather than celebrating how we are groups of people living in on one planet and being equal. there is nothng wrong with claiming who you are and defining your weaknesses and your strength; there is something wrong when you try to turn it into something bigoted and racist over one another. what is wrong with having MLK Day, or any other ethnic celebration or festivital...do you know many people have long felt they have lived in a world without color or without pride of themselves because it was not their world in which they lived. they were all guest. i won't bore you with anymore of my thoughts on this email cause it is a waste of my time. i truly see that you are fostering seperateness and not unity. this is america where we are allowed to live in this world as red, white, black, tan or whatever color we are without fear of discriminaiton or polarizaiton because we are not a designated color. i wish you allowed your life vision to see the world as it is and not as you wish it to be.

i agree with that sentence Marabelle. In my country (Chile) still are a few group of pure descendants of natives (not mix with spanish), we have a day that is call National day of the natives (andean culture), besides of that, is the day of the disappear people (because of the brutal Pinochet ex goverment), these days for me seem to be a very reasonable way to remember all that awful things that happen in honour to all those people and never forget them, and remind us that those kind of events can't ever happen again.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US .

Yet if there were 'White colleges' That would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching
for your race and rights.

If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange,
and you're not afraid to announce it.

But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us.. But, when a white police
officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-
dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you
call him a racist.

I am proud... But you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists??

There is nothing improper about this e-mail. Let's see which of you
are proud enough to send it on. I sadly don't think many will. That's
why we have lost most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won't
stand up for ourselves!

It's not a crime yet ..... but getting real close!

White Americans have always and most likely always will have their full rights; It's the other groups that have to fight for every inch of happiness that this country offers and if that means having to create their own base of support to have that so be it. Still in this day and time some parts of white America feel that it's their duty to mock and destroy anything that is not of them or to their standards of worth. On the other hand it is true there should not be any form of separation of the American people; we all should be able to live as one and enjoy equally all that this country offers; however, we all know somewhere deep in our hearts that this will likely never happen. Thus All we can do is try to live our lives and work at being more understanding of each other; we are all part of a whole (and a damn good whole it is) So let us keep the journey going my brothers and sisters and show the world what good stuff we are made of.
