OT~Alcohol smell coming thru pores?

Postby SteveForever » Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:19 am

Okay, question...this man I work with sweats profusely all day and I really thought it was because
he is overweight.

He smells awful but not dirty, his clothes are clean and he looks hygenic but I think
its his pores sweating alcohol? He pounds water all day. He's a dj at night and a really nice man but was wondering
if it could be the case why he smells that way, its a real turn off :?

If you're smelling this at work, better check his thermos and his desk drawer. Does he guzzle water all day? Maybe he's just an alcoholic.

Run.

Quickly.

In the opposite direction of him. Wow. Yeah... it's not 'normal'.

Depending on someones diet, their bodies can get an odd smell to them at times, especially when they sweat alot and are overweight. The body will usually omit things it doesn't want, in any way possible. Urine, poop, sweat, etc...

I used to work with a Greek guy named Tommy, who was very nice, but always smelled weird. A coworker identified it as garlic because Tommy ate EVERYTHING with alot of garlic on it or in it.

Then of course there's those people who just don't bother with hygiene. I currently work with 2 guys who smell all the time. They claim to shower daily, but they fail to understand that hygiene does NOT end with a shower and soap. If you go to sleep in the same dirty bed with the same dirty sheets, sit on the same nasty-ass furniture, get into the same gross smelly truck and come to work, that shower becomes a MOOT POINT!

I had a roommate who would do laundry once every two months, shower once every two or three days (at night, so he'd be greasy from sleep and reek by mid-day whenever he got around to bathing), wear the same shirt to the gym three or four days in a row, not shower after the gym, ate pizza/pizza bites/breaded chicken tenders/hamburgers for every meal (even at 10 AM), never washed sheets, had one towel, drank the shittiest beer, didn't cut his hair for a year. Basically every disgusting lifestyle choice you could make, he did. Probably the most foul-smelling human being I've ever been around. At least he was somewhat physically active, hitting the gym soft about 3 times a week for 45 mins. Sucked when he'd come back and refuse to shower.

Yeah good point, but also, Liz, Vodka is the alcoholics drink of choice- it gives off no odor.

Actually...yeah it does, and through the pores. Knew a lady who claimed she was 'sober'... cept we could smell it on her. She finally fessed up to it, saying, but it was Vodka.. how'd you know.

We knew.

Top shelf vodka's pretty hard to smell... but then, I doubt your average garden variety working class alcy is forking over $50 for Goose for every drunken day.

My dad was an alcoholic. He would reek of alcohol all the time from it coming out of his pores. Had to be in the car with him one morning. Thought I was going to toss my cookies from the smell. Disgusting.

It's true, and it's usually serious alcoholics that I smell this on. It's kind of a pure grain alcohol smell, and it is disgusting. Also, can't stand smokers who completely reek of smoke thru their skin. Never understood how that works -- not just the clothes, but their bodies are saturated with it.

Easier to take a shot with at least one light on, so you don't spill it on your clothes. And you throw up after only one shot?

When I was way younger and working nights trying to finish getting through nursing school, I worked with a woman who was just like this. Smelled to high heaven, always had bloodshot eyes, honestly I don't even know how she functioned on a daily basis. And she was a smoker as well, so you can imagine those 2 smells mixed together, it was awful. I was glad she was only part-time so I didn't have to be around her every night.

When my ex-boyfriend and I would go for long-distance runs in college, if he had been drinking heavily the night before you could smell it when he was sweating during the run. That's when women get so turned off to their husbands, or vice-versa, after years and years of them coming home drunk and smelling like that. Yeah, real turn on. No, not me. But I did date an alcoholic. I couldn't be married to one. What seems fun when you're dating them and out having fun isn't so much fun in marriage. I have many male and female friends who have gone through this with their spouses. My friend's husband used to be seen downtown b/f going into court drinking and smoking pot and then brushing his teeth in the car. Of course, she was cheating on him and everyone knew, so maybe that drove him to it.

Worse than that. The marriage was awful. He was verbally abusive and had been an alcoholic in previous years but kicked it. What was wrong and disgusting was she should have left him, but instead had a two-year affair pretty openly in a small legal community where both men knew each other. Very humiliating for him and caused him to relapse, and she admitted how selfish she was and he admitted he was a bad husband b/f. They both remarried and through counseling, for the sake of the kids, forgave each other. He did go in rehab and is fine now - I think.

Yeah that's pretty shitty. One of my good buds when I was real young had a similar type of thing going on - his dad was honestly a really generous, nice guy, not abusive to my knowledge at all. He was a good lawyer, but he liked his drink. Lots of problems there, including influence on my now-alcoholic past friend. One day the dude just gets off his couch, wife asks him where he's going, and he goes "Oh, to see my son." Turns out the guy sired a kid out of wedlock 6 years ago and just decided to break the news at random!

Last I heard, still married, but probably shouldn't be. What a mess.
