I was thinking that too but Strange Medicine was more refined and would never curse from what I remember.
Of course now that he would be litttle older, his language may have gotten more colorful.

We know TBF was not a sure deal (10 yrs into the future) ... almost an anomaly, that it happened, really.

The supposed story behind this song is that the band had just finished their last show in Alaska for the Frontiers tour. Jon was still standing in the parking lot and everyone had taken off, going their own way with no immediate plans to see each other again. Standing there alone, Jon began lamenting that the tour was over, and being by himself started composing the song in his head. Not a love song per say, but it seems to be interpreted as one by most of the fans.
Ad now you know the rest of the story.

Yes, but he promises to behave this time.

Given that Perry wrote it, not Cain, the tale is unlikely.

Really? Because I remember specifically in the liner notes of I THINK Time3, Cain saying he was being sentimental when he wrote the song. My memory is far from perfect, but I remember that part...

Nope... credits are "S. Perry, J. Cain".
However, those lyrics are way too good to have come from Cain, so I can see where there's confusion.
swataz wrote:From the Time3 Liner notes, although it doesn't 100% clear it up, seems that Cain wrote it...:
WHY CAN'T THIS NIGHT GO ON FOREVER
(S. Perry-J. Cain) From "Raised On Radio"
Cain intended this piece to represent the fans at a Journey concert, always one of his favorite subjects. "Just me, being sentimental," he said. The final single released by Journey in April 1987 could only manage to eke its way up the charts to #60, a year after the release of the album.

To be fair, it doesn't mean Cain wrote it. It means for his part, it came from something sentimental. Perry wasn't involved in the commentaries on those liner notes so you never get his take on any of them (which sucks, but... whattayagonnado)

Regardless of who penned the lyrics initially, I think it's become clear over the years that Cain has a tremendous ability to start a song with a wedge that grabs your attention, but really needs Perry to deliver the depth of writing that put some of these classics above what they have been producing the last several years.

There is ZERO comparison between the notes in "When You Love A Woman" and the glass-splitting notes at the end of "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever".
I suspect Arnel probably does have the power in his voice to take it on.
It's certainly not a coincidence that Schon hasn't dared have that song performed since Perry left the band. He knows full well that his collection of "replacements" had zero shot of tackling that song. Although Perry is superb on WCTNGOF, I don't think it's close to his best performance ever. For me, it will ALWAYS be "Mother Father". There isn't a song in the Journey catalog that illustrates Perry's untouchable brilliance more than that track.
Right...and I can't run 5 miles a night like I used to do when I was 25! What's your point? For the millionth time to you Perry detractors....It doesn't matter what Perry can do in 2009, and hasn't mattered in many, many years! Journey is a washed up, 80's band, who has been living off of Perry's immense talent since he left the band. Perry doesn't need to be relevant in 2009. He remains the reason that "Journey" sells any tickets and earn a living off of songs that were made famous by his voice!
You're "disturbed" that "Don't Stop Believin' gets radio play? Are you fucking serious dude? I think you're smoking from the same bong as Michael Phelps! In spite of your affinity for vocabulary, you sound like a bigger jackass with each post!
