OT: A new original demo with obvious influences. Perryisims.

Postby Liquid_Drummer » Mon Mar 16, 2009 7:45 am

I took a common bluesy motownish bass and guitar riff, wrote some quick lyrics, cut the drums and splattered it with Perryisms. I beg borrowed and stole on this one but I think its neat. Short, because its not done ?

Tell me what you guys think. Not my best recording but it was done in like 2 hours.

That's really good dude. We've got some talented folks on this board. I understand G.I. Jim is going to be needing a drummer soon. ;) 8)

Well, if he didnt live a million miles away.. Glad you liked it. I could hear Perry doing something like this style. This is kind of an expansion on "Cant let you go" in which he sang like 10 words ? Its in that style.

That really does sound great man! I'd maybe try to fatten up the guitars a little, and maybe add some more effects to them to wet them up, but that was a great sounding demo. Now you just need to add another verse and maybe a bridge. Great stuff!

Thanks for the compliments. I dont know that I will add anymore to it unless I get in a band that it would suit or decide to do an ep or something. I always hit a roadblock trying to write a second verse.

unbelievable!!! dude, this is beyond good..

your voice is unreal..

are you saying you wrote , put down the guitars and bass , drums and vocals and created this in 2 hours?

if this is you on guitar .. your just bad to the bone .. tone and style and everything..

..i must say though..the only negative.. if you will, is that immediately when i heard this i

thought of "that perry song with golub"..

man .. some of talent on this board is just beyond belief..

I played all instruments on this track and wrote it as well in about 2 hours. Yes, it sounds a bit like "Cant Let you go." and it was intentional. I wanted to expand on that idea. That is why its short because it was more and experiment than a serious song. Thanks for everyones kudos on the tune. Believe it or not I recorded all that on a cheap Korg 4 track. Mixing took a while and I would like to change the part...

And so you played your cards, you know you've gone to far. Im not the man Iused to be.

To.

And now you've played your card, You took it much to far. Im not the fool i used to be..... Keep away from me. Or maybe get away from me. I dunno. I hate writing lyrics !

Thanks man !! Songs like that I can write all day long but I usually dont because I want to be more experimental but with this one I just winged it. I have been playing guitar, drums, bass most of my life but I didnt start singing until like 94 and I couldnt do it very well. I wish I would have started sooner on singing. Im just lucky that I have a natural ability to play instruments BUT NOT THE SAX.. Sounded like whales dying !

Oh BTW, its not a real bass. Its guitar through a bass sim built in to the recorder.

LD - I am completely blown away by that track. That westcoast sound is the type of music I like best. You should get a few songs like that polished up and release an ep. I reckon you could have a cult classic on your hands amongst westcoast fans.

Did I make a westcoast sound ? Cool. Thanks for the compliments.

Here is another that G.I. Jim was nice enough to lay down keys and he made it exactly as I had envisioned it. Another short one but very different. Moody and kinda Chris Issac meets PInk Floyd meet Soundgarden (I say Soundgarden because my voice was toast and I sang it at like 8am and had to push very hard to get any notes out of my mouth.)

I find myself in a stylistic catch 22. I want to put out an ep BUT the songs I write are so all over the place genre wise I cant feel good about putting them on one ep. I feel an ep should have some cohesion with genre. Some of you have heard the tune below but if you havnt check it out and you will see what I mean. In contrast to the "soulish" tune I started this thread about this is an attempt at Melodic metal I guess. While it may be a good thing to write in different genres it sucks when you have no choice. I cant force myself to write anything. It has to come out naturally. Today it might be soul and the next it might be metal or even country. For those of you that listened and gave me your input I cant thank you enough. You guys are my only audience as I do not post my originals anywhere else.
