Mid or high tenor.. Well that depends on the weather, my near constant sinus problems (all the songs you heard I have one nostril at least half stopped up as that is the norm for me) so a lot of factors. I know that when I went to North Carolina and got out of the fucking dirty industrial Ohio Valley my nose was open 100% and when I noticed I started singing in the car. More stamina and way thicker. My girlfriend was like "holy shit dude. Of course I was playing the Houston 79 boot cranked.. Ahh man. Crusing the smokey mountains in a convertable, listening to your favorite music, slight weed buzz (dont judge me damnit!) with the love of your life and singing.. Ahhhhhh. Fucking magical time that was. We stayed here.

Sorry i got off on a tangent there. I have been wanting to write a song about the experience without it sounding like hippie music. hehe.

Oh yeah it was the 1st time I NAILED the "this we bring" part perry does at the end of patiently all while seeing beautiful mountains. ahhh. We are fucking moving there damnit !

I would have put the organ lower in the mix in the verses and the backing vocals more up in the mix overall. That drumsound is just boomy, not much to be done about that. I would like to hear that mix with YOU drumming on it, so it'll have a modern drumsound.

Liquid Drummer, I liked the original composition you posted awhile back...kinda dark song in theme. I think you sang it, too, and liked it.

Lost the download when my computer went phooie. Is that song still available?

Backing vocals are on the same track as the lead vox execpt at the end then they are on the organ track so turing those up mean the lead vox is too loud or the organ is even louder. Back then they didnt have as many tracks so they bounced a bunch of stuff. I could have spent all day on it and used a "microscope". I mixed this in about 30 minutes.

Wow. The organ on the original version of AWYWI is almost totally obscured, and very easy to ignore. In fact, it's the kind of thing that you forget you're even hearing. I really like your take, because it puts it more equally into the mix, and adds a whole other texture. Nice work, there.

I got caught up in your video on the Pink Floyd stuff too... looks like it would be a great show to see live! Run Like Hell smokes!

The remix sounds great, nicely done. Hearing the B3 is pretty cool. Rolie was a fucking genius (fucking fag boy Friga!)

If it was me I'd fatten up the harmonies on the backing vocals both in volume and depth, shit can any key sounds that weren't B3's and replace them with a power chord playing bassturd running a Wolfgang Special/5150 amp running the high gain input with the gain set on kill. Put the rhythm guitar up a hair in the mix over the B3. I'd also bring Neil's solos up a hair but not much. The bass is perfect, Smitty still sounds odd but I'm not sure what to do with it.

I guess Beatle fans have been doing the same thing with the Beatles catalog. EMI has never remastered their original CDs, so fans have been doing it themselves and releasing 'soft' versions online. As an example, you get a remastered Sgt. Pepper with a mono version, stereo version, and a ton of outtakes. They're supposed to be great and much better than the released CD versions.

LD, you might have a future here!

One request, can you please remix it so that every time Perry says a "SHH" it's overbearing in the mix? That'd be awesome!
(revelation joke)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I have to say that mixing pro recorded tracks is something i have always wanted to do and remixing any way you want it to my tastes was a lot of fun. I want to mix Journey's next album. Imho, Kevin's mixes sound a bit cluttered at times. I think that things should be mixed in a way that all instruments in the mix can be heard (or why even bother to put them there) clearly even by a novice that doesnt listen "deep". You have to serve the song above all else of course.

Brywool... Hehe im not sure I get the SHH thing... what do you mean ? I can do lots of things with the masters I have. Want be to make Perry sound like Issac Hayes ? hehe

Nah, on the Revelation re-records, on "Any Way You Want It", it's like they didn't use a blast filter on Arnel's mic or something. When he says "She likes to laugh, She likes to sing" it comes out as SHHHe likes to laugh... it's really annoying.

Yeah man, Smitty... The only problem I have had with the early Journey catalog is the drum sound. You should hear the drums by themselves.... Bleck !!! Boxy as all hell. There are three tracks that seem to be only snare which is very strange. Two sound the same and one is obviously a mic under the snare. In my mix I brought up the mic under the snare and now you can here the quiet accents. The boomy, boxy sound might be able to be tweaked some but I dont know. What I felt best served the song was getting Rollie's b3 out of the basement.. Damn they had him burried under Neal. Neal does need to come up a tad im my mix but since Rollie and Neal take up some of the same frequency spectrum turning up one a tad can drown out the other. I have rollie's left and right organ tracks panned all the way left and right and Neal is about 9 o'clock on his left guitar track and 3 o'clock on his right. By panning his guitar like this it makes the Stereo image a bit wider but takes some of the punch (I think he is often too damn loud anyway).. Mixing always has its trade offs. The best would have been if these tracks were raw with no effect and no bouncing. I have a master of Marvin Gaye's song whats going on that was raw like that and it was a pure joy to mix.

REMEMBER FOLKS. I am mixing on a home theater system. That is NOT how you do it. It may sound great to some of you and too bassy to others. I favor lots of low end but not where its boomy. I like to be able to feel it.

Also, b3 appears to be the only keys used on the track so nothing to ditch. I could remix it with no keys or no neal hehe.

Really, I havnt listened to the re-records since I got new speakers. I had crap ones before so I will have to check that out. If they didnt fix that they really need to have their hearing checked. That is SOOOO freakin easy to fix.

No I meant it would have been easy to fix in the studio not now that its final. I listened on my new bad ass speakers and I hear it too. Fuck. I think they all need to have their damn hearing checked. I might sound cocky but damnit put me behind the console and I think I could put a smile on their faces. Hard industry to get in to.

Oh, and I might remix anyway you want it again. Minor tweaks to attempt to modernize the boxy 70's drum sound and bring the organ down a hair which will make Neal a touch louder without having to turn him up . All of the other tracks sound fine but the drums just sound odd. The toms sound very, very boxy.

Here is anyway remix reupped to yousendit (thanks for posting it for me)
