Journey Album Artwork - Discussion

Postby Jana » Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:18 am

After all this discussion about the albums, what are your favorites and/or your least favorite album designs? This includes all the Greatest Hits CDs, too.

I would choose Escape as my favorite. Brilliant design.
I also really like Revelation as my second favorite. Liked the design and colors, kind of retro Journey.

My least favorite is a tie. I never liked Raised on Radio. Too bleak for me.
I also do not like Generations.

Trial By Fire I can never quite figure out, but really like.

Evolution and Raised on Radio.
I don't care for the ones with bugs on them.

Trial By Fire and Revelation.

Generations engages me most. It exploits spatial depth...and is surprisingly composed and focused despite the striking juxtaposition.

I have come to love Trial By Fire. I heard that Perry mandated that as the album cover and, if that is true, it was a great idea. The way the rug that got pissed on in The Big Lebowski tied "Dude's" room together, I think that that album cover tied a lot of Journey's history together. Love that cover. Easily their best. Kudos to Nostrildamus on that one.

Escape and Frontiers are my favorites...I guess I love Beetles and weird alien head things!  Seriously though...they're awesome artistry-wise, and I hope for something similar on our album cover.

Escape and TBF, then I go old school with Infinity, Evo, Departure, Captured. Revelation looks cheesy to me.

Elmo used to be red, not blue.
My friend has some of the original promo stickers of the red Elmo. 8)

I like them all except Frontiers and ROR

Here's a question, has anyone seen the ORIGINAL Frontiers cover OR the never used Freedom cover?

Those I would like to see.

I love the TBF artwork.... I actually have a print of it. A guy that use to work with me had won the print through some contest that Journey had sponsored. He thought that I would appreciate the print more than himself so he gave it to me....I only had to promise him to frame it....which I did.
I love the eagle palm tree.... can't figure out the cat/bird woman though!!!

Evolution and Escape - Best

Postby infinityplusone » Thu Apr 09, 2009 1:36 am

I've got the LP covers for Infinity-Frontiers framed, up on my wall.

ROR was cool, but didn't fit in with the others to well. The remaining 90s - 2000 art was okay, but not nearly in the pantheon of the Kelley/Mouse era.

Didn't have a problem with any of them up until the uninspired hackery of 'Generations'.
In comparison to the stunning covers of the past, Revelation also comes up short.
The Japanese Arrival cover was really the last standout.

ROR. Loved the shades of blue, and like the art deco style. TBF looked like a bad dream... the cat head on the woman's body ruined it. It scares my daughter, too. :)

Escape The cover really fit the name

Dream After Dream Because it was totally different from any of the other ones but still had some kind of wings involved

The Essential Journey I really like the backround for some reason
