God how I hated this movie....
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Ordinary People with Timothy Hutton, Marry Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland.
It was painful seeing Hutton's very sensitive character torment himself with guilt over his older brother and favorite son's death. Even more painful was that his parents could not comfort their youngest son. Unfortunate story, great script and great acting.

Requiem of a dream and Jacobs Ladder. If these two movies to not leave you jarred to the core (in a bad but interesting way) then you are brain dead.

I hated MTM for a long time after. She played her role so well.

Forgot about that one, great film. "Tim" (with Piper Laurie) is another Mel Gibson sleeper that I enjoyed.

So did I! Then again, I never thought much of her even on the Dick Van Dyke show and The Mary Tyler Moore show. It wasn't until her OP role that I woke up to her as an actress.

Ooohhh, Gallipoli left a huge, gaping crater in the pit of my stomach. I had forgotten about it, too. We had to watch that and read The Abolition of Man (Lewis, C.S.) for freshman orientation. I had a headache for a week.

Pan's Labrynth.......the movie is about a girl who sees imaginary creatures to escape the horrors around her. Depressing ending........not a chick flick though, nor a childrens movie, this thing is graphic and emotional. I loved it.

+1, Yes, this movie was a real tearjerker. :( Great flick.

I also thought the "Fixer" featuring an awesome performance by Alan Bates was very depressing.

Deerhunter. I felt terrible leaving the theater after that one.

Brian's Song was the biggest tear jerker...depressing, but uplifting as well.

How about the most depressing movie for me to have to sit through?

The English Patient. Hated it with a passion from about two-thirds of the way through to the end. I was giving it a chance before that.

I felt redeemed when Seinfeld did a show about it, which mirrored how I felt, because we haters were definitely in the minority.

Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Which version of Imitation of Life...the one with Claudette Colbert or the one with Lana Turner.

For me, excellent but depressing...

Days of Wine and Roses with Jack Lemmon

Stella Dallas. I think there was a remake of this movie in the 90's with Bette Midler called "Stella".

Both versions were good, but the original with Barbara Stanwyck is pretty hard to beat. I think she was a wonderful actress. She's one of my favorites from "old Hollywood".

Seven Pounds. We saw it in the theater when it came out, then watched it on DVD lastnight - kids hadn't seen it. This movie is so heart breaking, I had to do everything in my power to keep from audibly sobbing in the theater (and I don't DO THAT!). I've seen it twice and will never watch it again. Too draining. Will Smith is great, though.

Smith and Jim Carey are trying hard to shed their comedic images. Without being a spoiler, I'll just say there were some loopholes in this one but Smith was good in it and it kept me interested in what was coming next.

There's not a single film I've seen with Carey as a serious guy that I've enjoyed. I avoid his films like the plague now.
