Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

He's for real. In early 90's, PBS wanted to do a story about his dad, a famous "mountain dancer" but ended up doing the story on the son, Jesco. Led him to get a cult following.

Here's a clip about it:

Whoa, it's hard to believe that we live in the same country as these people. The dad looked a little bit like Jed Clampett. Jesco, when he was sitting in the trailer wearing those sunglasses, reminded me of Rev. Jim Jones. His wife must have had a hell of a life being married to that psycho.

I didn't mean it that way. What I meant was that these people have such an insular culture. The way they live seems so removed from the rest of the country. I guess it's what makes this country so interesting. That there are still little pockets of fringe populations, appalachian, amish, hippies, polygamists, gullah, etc. where language, culture, values, music, religion etc. are preserved. In some ways they are so far out of the mainstream that it seems hard to believe they can still exist.
