"Open Arms" on Dancing with The Stars Tonight

Postby SP Fan in Oregon » Tue Apr 21, 2009 3:26 pm

It wasn't a Steve Perry version, or any Journey singer's version. There were four singers
in the credits, two men and two women, so I assume one of those singers sang the song.
It was pleasant to see the dancers dancing to the song, but whoever sang it didn't really hit
the notes. I wondered why they didn't just go with the SP version. Do you think the use rights
would have been too expensive? :?

This is the best version ever........... I love this song and how SP sings it here.

The show has their own singers...sometimes, they are good and sometimes not. Tonight's "Open Arms" not so hot & the dancers (Edyta & the football player) who chose the song to dance to weren't the best. Yep, I watch the show.

I caught the credits as the show ended - for some reason my wife thought her next show was on ABC not CBS....anyway - I hear the singer warble thru it in the small clip, and I longed for the SP version.

Granted, it is not an easy song to sing in the slightest but the guy shouldn't have even tried.

I appreciate your opinion, but when the singer bastardizes the song with a crappy version of it, people are going to have something to say about that. The "band" did great,
played the song so it could be recognized. My complaint wasn't about the "band" it was about the crappy singer. I was pleased that the song was used on the show, but my point
was I wondered why they let their own singer "attempt" the song when SP's version of it would have been so much better. I was asking if people thought it was because the rights
to airing the SP version would have been too expensive. It made my ears ache to hear their singer sing it.

Didn't they have Def Leppard on the show last year? I think they just wanted to try something different by covering the song themselves. I don't think it was a money issue on securing the rights to play the original version. The show isn't hurting for cash.

(Because I never miss this show  ) - they never play recorded music - i.e. original versions - during the competition. The house band always plays and sings. I remember hearing a couple of years ago also that when the dancers rehearse, they actually rehearse to the recorded/original song and then have to dance live to the house band's version. That would be tough!
