Hugo, while supposedly a nice guy, sounds thin as hell.
Can't believe JDK suggested him for Journey.

I know. When people keep bringing up Hugo, I don't get it. I've always thought the exact same thing, thin vocals and lack of power.

Agree with both of you.

Is the guitar as good as Schon's? Can the drummer touch Dunbar/Smith/Castronova. Sometimes people forget there are more pieces to Journey than just the singer.

I'd pay a $20 cover...for a coverband...not much more. I hesitate to keep dropping the big change for Journey...not because of a stepped down note...but because I've heard the same basic concert a biggillion times. I wish they'd change it up...more jams...new songs...old songs... and once again... BRING BACK ROLIE!

Has anyone been in a concert and heard a band and said...shit...they have tuned it down a step. This sucks. I haven't ...has anyone else?

Best thing Hugo has done is the self-titled Hugo album. Not sure if that one is available or not.

If you're asking me, I'd buy everything the guy has done.

And doing so means that you're buying a mere imitation of the band called Journey. But there's a market for that so...be my guest.

I'll stick to the real thing, that's as real as possible and comes complete with 2 founding fathers.

uh huh. They have one founding member that contributes with everyone else in donkey mode or being replacements. And they're detuning because their 6th singer is not able to cover the catalog. Who is the real imitation? I mean really ...

Now seriously, if you haven't listened to the stuff Hugo has done then you don't have any credibility. If you have listened to it with an opened mind, then fair enough. Hugo/Valentine's stuff is harder edged than Journey and is arguably better than Journey's stuff post 1983. Have a look at some of the McNeice archives to get his take as compared to Trial by Fire.

Say what you will...but there isn't a song that Valentine does that hearkens back to yesteryear's Friday Night Dances or rekindles an almost forgotten memory of a video followed by an MTV moonman unless they're covering Journey.
You did say that they are arguably better, So I'm arguing. I'm also saying that if Valentine was noteworthy, they have yet to come close to scratching the scrotum of musical genius that is Journey...So while I agree that things haven't been handled the best, the music...still remains.

Correct me if I'm wrong but ....Ross and Neal qualify as founding fathers along with George Tickner, Prarie Prince, and Gregg Rolie.

So we're now at the part that says in your thread that you're not going where I say...I am :)
For all of you who plan on watching Journey this summer...see you out there.

By your own definition they will fail in your eyes. No one is able to associate to your memories of years ago when they were not part of the that time on the radio. Naturally you'll will gravitate to the songs of that time so I would think it would be difficult to accept new music so rock on. If you've listened to them with an open mind then fine and rock on. I don't judge music on how it reminds me of the past, I look forward, not back-wards.

You're founding members are correct. However, my comment referred to contributing founding members that have influence in the band, Neal Schon. Ross is a founding member but does the donkey work on the bass and is not an influence in the band. If you want to go hear them dutuned for their sixth singer then rock on and I hope you enjoy the show. I'll spend my money elsewhere, thanks.

I think this one has better sound quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UM9KP9zQHhY

And of course it's good. Lance is better than fag boy friga, Hugo is good, and Holland soul on the axe man ...
