Deen is getting a lot of props too, now.
This is no longer a one vocalist band.

Agreed. His english is getting better. Unless he was trying to reference Confucius, then we are sadly back to square one.

Neal and the band risks giving hostage to fortune labeling Arnel as “the missing ingredient since Perry”.
That’s a tall order, and one that’s been leveled twice already.
I guess only the new album will tell for sure.
Video clips sound good.
There has never been any bob and weave when it came to the reason SA is no longer in the band. He got sick, could not sing and everyone knows this. Frankly, I like JSS, but he was not a great fit for Journey. While I don't agree with the way his termination went down, I do agree that it was the right decision. And, it seems that Journey was already courting Arnel when JSS got let go, but had not been hired yet. That makes me think that Neal pretty much had it figured out that he was getting Arnel or would enlist Jeremey for the job. Arnel is the best thing since SP...I totally agree, but don't believe me. It's written all over the fans when they play a gig. Arnel has great command of the audiance and superb stage presence.
There was bobbing and weaving re Steve Augeri's alleged lip-synching during tour b/f it was reported and all of a sudden he left the tour b/c of vocal problems.
Neal is a dick, great guitar player thats all. The only thing i liked about the interveiw was that hot blond chick that kept bending over in front of the cameramarco17 wrote:Jana wrote:steveo777 wrote:The_Noble_Cause wrote:Coinciding with the band's return to its "legacy sound", looks like Ross has re-grown his cookieduster 'stache.

I've always been an Augeri supporter, but I didn't think they were dissing him. Sweden Rock was where everything started to blow up for them with the recorded vocals/Lipping thing, so I am sure they were trying to be tactful. John basically said, he was was sick, had vocal issues, which he did, and just couldn't sing to that level anymore. Maybe Steve can now, he sounded good when I saw him a couple weeks back, but he certainly isn't singing the dirty dozen 4-5 nights a week, so there is no way to know if he could hold up now after healing. They did dismiss Jeff, but that has been consistent since day one. Also, everyone has their favorite Journey singer, but they are going to kiss Arnel's ass and make it sound like he's the best thing since sliced bread because he is the current flavor of the month, and you wouldn't/shouldn't expect them to be any different. Neal's "Shit happens" comment...is typical Neal, trying to be funny, but coming across like "oh well."
Damn, at least the media there asked them some "decent" questions. I was listenting to the Europe press conference, and it was a joke. I don't think I've ever heard so many stupid questions in my life. I feel for the band having to sit through that 20 minute BS session. It was painful to listen to.

Not eloquent, but that particular statement captures the essence of the situation beautifully. If Neal is to be believed, he's tried over the years to patch things up with Perry and has gone on record wanting to hear his voice again. If anything, Neal can not only be as charitable as Perry, but he's actively taken steps to rekindle the relationship, to no avail.
It's Perry's fault, so it's not Neal's job to extend the olive branch.

Well, take my $0.02 for what they're worth, but personally? I find that it's in Perry's best interest to keep his comments to himself. You'll notice, ever since Behind the Music came out, little gems like "lul i never felt like i was part of teh band" are no longer in circulation; he fucked up, plain and simple. The truth is Neal's very much right, to some extent. Perry fractured the band long before TBF came along. Neal has the facts on his side and while Perry is enough to cloud objectivity in a large percentage of middle aged women around the planet, it's not enough for him to bank on winning a PR battle with Neal.
He keeps it to himself because when he opens his mouth and says things like the aforementioned "never felt like I was part of the band" comment -- he becomes a cosmic laughing stock to everyone in the know. Lest we forget, Behind the Music, which devoted a great deal of time to Perry's side and perspective, finished with a montage of a series of humiliating rebuttals to that particular comment: Herbie, Neal, Jon, Ross, and even Smith -- the guy who supposedly left the band because Perry was gone -- all thought it was the dumbest fucking words ever uttered.
And I don't exclude the notion that Perry might simply have mellowed and no longer feels the need to say such things. But realistically? It's in his best interest to keep his mouth shut.
Gunbot wrote:I agree with this. As for Neal's comments, I think people love interviewing him because it's easy to push his buttons and he can be manipulated to say shit he wouldn't otherwise. Once it comes out, Neal isn't the type to take it back, which I can admire in a way.
He's like a permanent drunk, get him going and the truth will come out whether it wants to or not.

then maybe you need a few more years under your belt!

That one sentence was also taken out of context. Lora has mentioned that too. And also read Perry say in an interview that it was part of what he was saying. It was part of him talking about when he first joined the band and how they were such a tight brotherhood to crack in to.

I read the subsequent interview. GQ, right? He said that he never felt like he was part of the band, that he felt the need to prove himself to Neal and Gregg and Jon and Herbie and Jesus and so on.
I can understand the initial reservations. After all, Neal and Gregg didn't want a lead singer. Perry was forced upon them. But the fact that he would later assume control in a manner that conjures images of the Emperor in Star Wars would suggest that those feelings died.
But, of course, he didn't say that.
