That is classic. These concert reviews are going to be awesome this year.

Go ahead, relish the bad ones, but I wonder if you will ever surprise me and actually compliment the good or great ones - just even once this year.

CADOTT - The weather may have been cold, but Journey - Rock Fest's headline act on Saturday - was red hot.

The powerful Pineda brought his own vocal style but kept the classics authentic-sounding, too. The natural born performer had no problem winning the crowd over.

"Good people of Wisconsin, sing!" he invited during the well-received performance of "Faithfully."

Does that make the performance of the song better somehow? Fail.

There will always be posters here who will forever bitch anything about Arnel. But Journey is getting a second life. If some of you are not happy, well sorry for all of you and so be it.

How about me? Well I'm happy and having a blast. :D

That's why we're here and not at the Journey music site. Where else could we all co-exist in peaceful disharmony? :D

Gotcha.

Once you stop thinking of this as a fan site but rather as a place where people with some common interest in Melodic Rock come together, you'll have a better understanding of the chaos that we like to deliver upon ourselves on a regular basis.

That's somewhat hard to comprehend. A mere speculation about SP on anything will set this site on fire.

Well, it goes both ways, Chubby. You say you have no interest in Perry/Journey days. With Arnel coming on as lead singer and, to me, the resurgence of the band excitementwise, I went back and purchased any CD I did not own already, and there is an amazing catalogue of songs by Journey, and to really, truly love Journey is to appreciate all that Perry brought to Journey songwise and melodywise and Neal too, simply amazing guitar work, songs that you will never hear in concert and b/c you don't own any of the old albums with Journey from what I can tell from your posts, and there are just some deeper cuts or lesser-known songs. Some of those remastered albums are just amazing with the sound quality. Many will think you're missing out too and not really a complete Journey fan, but just an Arnel fan. Away goes Arnel, away goes Chubby.

100% correct and proud of it.

But I love Neal, that will never changed.

If Arnel goes, I might not be an active Journey fan but the band will forever occupy a permanent place in my heart.

This site hs been around for a decade. For the majority of us, Journey started in 1978, not 2007. Steve Perry will always garner the most attention here, no matter who the current flavor of the month is for the band. Unfair? Perhaps, but It's just the way it is. We were just getting used to Augeri and then in a flash, he is gone. Doing the re-records did no favors for Pineda. Instead of letting him start fresh like Augeri, It brought Journey's past front and center and made Perry a modern topic here again.

Me and Journey are having a "relationship" right now. So it is slowly becoming part of my life. Once someone or something became a part of your life, you tend not to forget. I just cannot connect with what you guys are feeling because I am new to this.

Even if we we were not thrilled with the choice, most of us loons did purchase Arrival and Revelation when they came out (JSS was so different, that might not have happened with him, I'll admit). We've also dropped money on their shows with the new singers for the most part.
This is where the new factor of nationlism comes into play. We older fans are for the most part all about the music, while a lot of you plokkers are about Arnel. If he goes, you go. How can you all consider yourself as true fans of the band with that mentality? I'm not just singling out one person, I've seen that sentiment shared by quite a few of the new fans. The true fans; Jana, Redjoepa, Brywool, St John, YoungJRNY, Ewmatt, etc. will follow the band no matter who their singer is. I'm not feeling that from this new group of concertgoers.

True most of us are about Arnel for now. But we are investing so much time and emotions, so who knows what the future holds.

Curious...

Postby ttango1 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 5:17 pm

I'm old enough to have seen SP in the 80's (Escape and Frontiers Tours) and see AP(Or NSP for Not Steve Perry for the loon in you) and I think that, most of the time, AP gives fans a shot of what used to be. It's like he's trying to bridge what Perry Era gave us to what Revelation is. It's a precipitous task and as such, not everything goes off without a hitch. As a hardcore Spurs fan, I don't expect for Tim Duncan to be perfect every game, just like I don't expect Tiger to win every tournament, or expect that every movie that Angelina Jolie does to be "Schwing" Worthy. Perfection isn't the norm, it's an exception and every once in awhile, everything clicks.

But more often than not, something doesn't click. IT'S A LIVE PERFORMANCE, so what else is new?
8)

Anyways...what I'm curious about is the following:
I've been watching the Download festival and I admit, since I'm eclectic when it comes to music, I haven't been listening to Def Leppard. Although I was big on it when they first popped on to my TV in the early 80's. I even rocked the white muscle shirt and White Jean look :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfVaq1w1aZk <- Joe Elliott singing Bringin' On The Heartbreak.

He's gone from someone who could wail a shrieking tenor to someone that sings an octave lower. I'm glad he's OG(Original Gangster or just the Original) but hearing this song, sung like that, as opposed to what I remember...well, TO ME, just lacks balls, juevos, juice...what have you.

If Steve sang at all like that, would he get a free pass because he is THE STEVE or would us fans prefer that Journey no longer go on one?

Absolutely. He helped create the legacy, whether by songwriting or helping on the melodies, he's is part of the fabric that makes Journey. It's about nostagia for the majority of us I would think. Being original trumps his vocal short comings. Let's be honest, if Journey goes into the HOF, only one singer is going to be given the reward with the rest of the group, no matter how well the current singer is performing the songs.

I think, or I would hope that the casual fans would take into consideration that SP is 60. People still flock to see the Rolling Stones, and Mick is relegated to pretty much just speaking the lyrics anymore. Although the Stones' music was never centered around soaring vocals, so that comparison may not hold water.

Hey..hey, you forgot another long time fan....me! I would not jump ship if Arnel was gone, however I do believe this is Journey's last chance as far as replacement singers goes. One more time and I think they would lose most of the fan base. For a few years I was of the mindset, no Perry / no Journey, but little by little Augeri grew on me and I regained some interest in the band again, but I must say Journey got really back into my sights again when Arnel came on board.

I feel, unlike Stevew2, that Faithfully has been one of Arnel's best songs on Journey material, but I agree this year from some videos I've viewed there's a part the he drags on in the beginning especially. And it's happened more than once. I can't figure out what is going on, b/c that's not how he performed it last year ever, from Chile on.

Remember what JSS said when they tried to Step Down with him? He sad it's a difficult thing to do.
Perhaps it's part of Arnel's problem with slow songs like this. He has had a few timing issues this year also. It's either the detuning or he's developing hearing problems. Remember he never worked with loud equipment like this before, it could be that his ears are taking a beating.

Serves him right. Why should he be excluded from the rest of us!!!!

Did a Perry loon unplug the geetars and amplificationators?

I guess we'll wait for more news. Doesn't sound too good.

A voice was heard in the background from Bufford T. Justice. "Listen you nin-cum-poop...you were only supposed to turn off the tape deck. I can't believe you come from my loins, Boy!" :P
