That's where you come in and like you said, don't take everything like gospel. You definitely have to ask more questions these days and be sure your doc is on the ball... but I'm not a huge fan of saying most doctors are greedy jackasses. Leave insulting sweeping generalizations like that to Obama.
Hey, there. I apologize if I gave the impression that I think the medical profession is largely corrupt. I do know plenty of great doctors, and I think the really bad ones are a minority, but they are out there in enough numbers that people have to be careful.
And I still think medical training these days seems to focus a bit more on treating symptoms than making people healthy, thanks to the influence of the pharmaceutical industry.
I don't disagree at all with above bolded. But in today's "Gimme now" world, it's a classic question of chicken - egg or egg - chicken. Most people don't go to the doctor until they are buckled over completely (out of work/school) with an illness. People get sick, they want a pill to make it better. People get hungry, they don't wanna cook a healthy meal, they wanna grab a quick burger from McD's. People want to hear the song from the radio, they'll download it or skip right to it on the CD... nevermind taking the time to see how it fits with the album, etc etc.
In other words, people don't want to take the TIME to be healthy. They just want a quick fix when things go awry. So I'm not sure if the medical profession responded to this larger social phenomenon or created it. I think it's probably more of a response to how we as humans in this society are than an industry creation myself...
At any rate, doctors ARE still there to help you take preventive measures... which yes, people should definitely do.
I have a horrible paternal history of hereditary cholesterol. No one's even close to overweight on that side, but they've all had it, including my father. I'm just 23 and I already go in yearly for a cholesterol check-up since I turned 18. I doubt many other guys my age with a similar hereditary problem keep tabs on it like that... or even people twice my age.
