I think I already kinda mentioned this in my intro thread, but whatever-- I'll just go into detail this time. *shrug*
My favorite Steve P. Journey albums are Dream After Dream and Frontiers. Dream After Dream because of that symphonic, progressive nature it has. Reminds me of a mix of Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel-era Genesis... which are two of some of my favorite bands! And even though Steve doesn't sing too much on it, his performance is great, haunting, and beautiful.
Frontiers is just great-- though I must admit whenever I say "Frontiers", I mean "Frontiers without Back Talk, plus Ask the Lonely and Only the Young". LOVE his tone on that album. It's slightly husky and deeper, but he can still hit the high notes up in there. Raised On Radio-era vocals are also insanely good... too bad the music he sang on wasn't my cup of tea for the most part. (Though I love the song It Could've Been You)
My favorite solo album of his is FTLOSM, though as I said before I think, it does have it's flaws. It suffers from Too Many Ballads Syndrome, mainly. Cut some of the ballads and add Lost Angels and some more rockers and you got yourself an awesome album. Eh. Too bad. Street Talk has its flaws, too, but it also adds the fact that as I said, R&B isn't my thing *for the most part*.
Song-wise, I think my favorite songs he's ever sang on for vocal-quality are Ask the Lonely, It Could've Been You, Winds of March, Little Girl, Still They Ride, Captured By the Moment, Strung Out, What Was, Somewhere There's Hope, Anyway.... and the list goes on.
