Songs that Remember 9/11

Wait a minute Matt- I just read Keith's verbiage. Kind of "Hey you got over on us but here comes big bad America." Stupid to say the least. I would rather have my President read his fucking briefings and not have to have memorable 9/11 tunes, but I digress.

The word's to The Rising are a bit more real and poetic/prophetic than the word's to Keiths' tune. And I don't say that because BS wrote that song. I happen to dig Toby Keith, but he isn't the stinkiest shit in the proverbial asshole, now is he?

I know that's exactly what he was sayin - kind of a childish sentiment, but it's obviously meant to be (1) cathartic and (2) aimed at the country audience. As we know, country music isn't know for deep meanings and complex sentiments. I'm not trying to say the song deserves to be enshrined in the lyric hall of fame, just needs to be taken for what it is.

And I haven't a problem with the NASCAR part of our electorate. They mean well, just a bit different in their presentation. Good ol folk.

and just who are you to tell people what songs should or shouldn't mean something to them? As long as the song says something to a person about the day should not make a difference to anyone else. Its not always your way or the highway you know.

And what it makes me feel is sad; sad that the initial deaths happened, sad that it pulled so many countries into war, sad that people are still dying, and most of all, sad that someone's response isn't 'this is a fucking tragedy, hang your head and weep for the madness we inflict on each other' but is instead 'yeah, we're blowing the shit out you! Take that!' Sure, he is entitled to that response, and Angel is entitled to feel the same way and love the sentiment; I find it saddening that people gear up to be gung ho, psyching themselves up for more of the same, when all I want to do is scream 'enough!' There has to come a time when we say 'enough is enough, let's stop the eye for an eye before everyone is blind.' And by we, I mean all of humanity, not just the West.

Or is my sorrow not a valid reaction, because I'm a bleeding heart liberal?

Just saw Chris Cornell singing THIS and I really loved it. This song is simply timeless.
