I LOVE, LOVE Muse!

Pink was fabulous. It's so funny though - I'm not sure if I can decide on a true best "performance" for either Pink or Muse because both cheated. Pink didn't sang live (no one can do that while doing trapeze stunts) but her band was live. Muse was partially live (nice additional tapes) but Bellamy sang live.

Oh well, it's the overall show that counts at VMA, I guess.

Pink doesn't believe in lip-synching, so I don't believe she was.

100% spot on. No way the lead vocal was live. You can hardly even see her lungs expand to take in air. For that "video like" quality while lip syncing.

Muse would be cool if I liked their singer. As it is, though, their singer annoys me.

Pink is hot, not a mondo fan of her music however. :P

LOL...Okay. If you're kidding, let me know.

Just because at one point she was breathing heavily into her mic doesn't mean she was live the rest of the time. It's just a clever show.
Listen closely again - her voice is smooth and even all the time while she is performing extremely difficult body movements. This wasn't just running around on stage, what she did was completely change the position of her body all the time. The vocal cords and the lungs were under so much pressure that if she would have been live, she would've sounded like a frog with a flu after 1 minute into the song.

Hiya brat...LOL...

I believe Pink does that whole trapeze thing in her act that she's on tour with now. I don't know if last night specifically was lip-synched or not, but I'm pretty sure she has the trapeze thing as part of her act. Having done musical theater it is possible to sing and dance at the same time, but it takes someone with monumental lungs & skill. Trapeze while singing... if it's legit, holy shit, if not, meh..but still cool to watch. Agreed, it would hurt like a mofo to execute.

I thought I heard alot of 'stress' to her vocals that leads me to believe she was singing and sometimes almost struggling with it. For me, this definatley was the performance of the evening and the exact reason "we" used to watch the VMAs religiously when growing up. This is what a performance at a 'special event' should be. She totally stepped it up and pulled it off.

I did not see Gag's performance but I think she might have also stepped up for the awards show.

Most performances just seem like the 'same ole same ole', phoned in, nothing daring. OR they are simply done for shock value. Too calculated, no passion.

The VMA video was pulled from YouTube (I thought Viacom put it up?), but here is an audience recording of the same performance that she did in Rotterdam:

Lady Gaga was good.

But I agree Pink was live. She has come on record lambasting lip-synching in lieu of live performances and especially Britney Spears not being able to perform live. She would not do something so strenuous at the expense of live vocals when she feels so strongly about it.

How did Gag's sound? She is also on record as opposed to lip-synching so that wins a little cred from me. But for the most part I think she is too much about shcok. I mean, C'mon, 6 different outfits for the VMA's!?!? Although I liked the black one....and the red one was sheer. As a guy I can appreciate slightly veiled boobs and red panties!! ;)
