I cant figure out how Chicago got booted in the 1st rounds!! Im guessing that maybe, just maybe, the crime rate in the city is just way to high? I mean, they couldnt even host The Taste of Chicago without some shooting going on, and thats only...what?...5, 6 blocks long?? Maybe they were thinkin, how can they host the Olympic games?? One friend of mine back home in Chicago had mentioned to me that Chicago is now #1 for the worst city in crime rates. BYPASSING L.A.!!!

WGN News didnt help much either by broadcasting all the anti-rallys against the Olympics! People from all over can view WGN News!! Guess we will never know the real reasons...but this is just my view on maybe why we didnt get the bid.

Man oh man, has this turned out to be a great day after all! I am so happy for the people with level headed minds and bank accounts in Chicago, too bad Daley had to waste almost 50 million dollars on this olympic bid. Just maybe it will cost him his job in 2011.

Good for Rio. South America has never had a country host the Olympics.

I can't believe people are trying to turn this into something about Obama 'failing'. This is like, the least important problem you could be gloating about. America gets the Olympics every decade. Let someone outside of Europe, US, or Japan have a turn.

Tell that to the world press and, as I posted on the Obama Thread just now...the effing New York Times has chimned in....make no mistake....this was an Obama fail. No two ways about it.

COPENHAGEN — President Obama not only failed to bring home the gold, he could not even muster the silver or bronze.

Exactly my point, I can't believe this is an issue. WORSE THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT HERE

Which proves he should have never went without a sealed deal in the first place. Presidents don't go to these meetings without first having the deal done before hand, by diplomats and staff. This makes him look bad, and the world is never at a loss to try and make America look bad, and he just handed them a publicty nightmare on a platter by not having advanced legwork done. This makes his leaving for a day and not doing Presidential Business at home even worse. Fail!

Eh, but at the same time if he hadn't gone, people would be whining that he cost us the Olympics by NOT appearing.

good comments sarah! i laugh at the clips of conservatives cheering that we didn't get it, amazing. the hatred for our president is so over the top and feeds into everything it seems. bush stated how much it would mean to america, our country to have the olympics and chicago was the perfect american city to host. people need to lighten the fuck up.

On a somewhat related note, like my dad said, maybe Chicago was just too corrupt for the IOC (especially on the heels of Salt Lake). Not saying the other 3 cities didn't grease palms too, but maybe Chicago grease too much. That does happen.

What conservatives can't stand is the fact that the Bamsters top general in Afghanistan asked for more troops because they're getting their asses handed to them. The Bamster say's they have to look at the strategy, proceeds to blow him off to fly off with Oprah to try to get the Olympics! He was elected to be commander in chief....and now acts like he can't be bothered to do the job....That's what we don't like!

Nice generalization there, Steve. I live not far from Chicago (in the south suburbs) and it's actually pretty nice there :?

Yeah haters like you would. You'd be like, "WOW OBAMA HAS NO LOYALTY TO ILLINOIS ANYMORE HE DIDN'T EVEN TRY"

Either way, he loses in the public eye. He can't do anything right. I agree he's been an ineffective president so far, but the hared is over the top! For the Olympics, no less! God forbid America get anything less than second place. Only fail countries like Japan and Spain should suffer that, amirite?

The hatred for Bush was a little over the top too! I didn't like Bush and I don't like Obama about the same, they are both crooks just like most politicians. The IOC did us all a favor, blocked us from having to spend money we dont have.

EXACTLY!!!

Obama is now trying to be President of the World! Fewer freedoms are around the corner...martial law is next.

If you don't believe it, you better pull your heads out of the sand and start looking around. If you had a mind to protest anywhere in Pittsburgh for the G20, you would have left with welts on your back and had to have been bailed out of jail. We are now in the grasp of a dictatorial system policed by jack-booted thugs commanding a host of submission weapons you would NOT believe.

So much for a Republic and government BY THE PEOPLE and FOR THE PEOPLE.

i believe the real story is that the president needs to review the report and discuss it with the military brass. i'm pretty sure he is thoughtful enough to consider the dangers involved for our enlisted and thinks twice before sending them into harm's way. but why would i expect anything other than spin from the so-called conservatives lead around by their noses with rush and beck calling the shots.

That could never happen. Your boy holds the title of worst president in U.S. history and that will never change. Bush is responsible for hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths due to his dumbass bully move to invade a country that was no threat to us. Obama is a saint compared to Bush.

Yeah, Bush really fucked that one up for eight long years, didn't he? Thankfully we are headed back to doing the will of the people with Obama. Just don't get that confused with doing the will of the Republicans - the people kicked their asses out, and for good reason. Deal with it.

Fuck Bush. I don't hate Obama, but I do hate TYRANNY. Maybe he doesn't have a choice in the matter...maybe he does. If he does, then I will not be very happy. Global governance will eventually make us all serfs again with no freedoms other than what they choose for us.

The government we have in place right now is no longer an arm of the people...it is herding them all into a corner and taking away their liberties and eventually their income in the form of every tax conceiveable. Something WE ALL need to open our eyes to and deal with.

I just find it extremely hilarious to see right-wingers stating that Obama has failed as President because he didn't get the Olympic Committee to choose Chicago over Rio. That is the best joke I've heard in weeks! I mean, condemn the guy for a real offense such as starting a war based on bogus reasons or for failing to get help to hurricane victims - but if you're going to bash Obama on a regular basis for petty stuff like this, you will lose all credibility. It's obvious that many right-wingers are on the Obama witch hunt and are desperately looking for reasons to condemn him so you can get back at Dems for condemning your ignorant maverick cowboy. But let's use a little common sense for a change. Not getting the Olympics here is not a failure, but sending hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis to their death for no good reason is.

Fuck the Olympics. As far as Obama is concerned, I'd simply prefer a politician who knows he's a scumbag, takes his under the table money, but still allows me to make the vast majority of choices that affect my every day life. But I guess some need to throw in old & tired diversionary tactics like speaking about W's past failures than deal with what's going on in the present day.

i would have loved to see the olympics in chicago... my hubby was born & raised in the suburbs... we have lots of family there. love when we're able to visit... beautiful city! }=C) i found the obama's plea tho to be way too personal... turned me off & probably others as well. not saying the stories didn't touch me but they made it too much about themselves.
