I thought that, vocally, the performance was pretty solid. While he played it relatively safe (he didn't really have a choice), there are some nice variations in the phrasing. It's a pretty subdued version and it came across as sincere. Take away the (unfair) comparisons to Perry, and it's pretty good.

Come on man it's terrible, right down to that horrendous keyboard sound he used. Give me 10 seconds and I'll plug ProTools and Reason in and bang out a few chords on my MIDI controller and I can make a better sounding piano - and I don't even know how to play piano!

As for the mp3, I'm assuming its the version off BTTI and yeah, its pretty bad. Don't care if he wrote it.

I've been on record here many times saying that I think Faithfully is the greatest ballad (Journey or otherwise) of all-time. I give the Journey version a 100 out of 100 and the Cain version a 70 out of 100. Maybe that'll clear things up a bit. One is perfect and the other average. Which is exactly why I said that it's unfair to even compare the two.

This wasn't some sort of released version was it? It sounded like something he just sort of cooked up in his spare time. If I remember correctly, the version with him and that female singer that went to #1 on some "adult" chart was much better.

I wouldn't know. That version is the one I had heard before... I didn't even know the version posted here existed. I thought the duet was THE Friga faithfully. It's on his MySpace right now. Not too bad to be honest, but I like country music a lot more than most here. I like the new bridge they added to it.

The only famous singer doing their rendition of Faithfully that I have ever loved is Marc Anthony. Marc has just an amazing voice and is tremendous on this song but kind of ruins it at the end b/c he ducks out on the ending notes, probably due to his being a very heavy smoker, and you're just waiting for the big finish to come and it never does, just fades, and so the song isn't fulfilling with his ending, but the guitarist is great. If he didn't duck the ending, I would have ranked his performance right up there. But up until that point tremendous rendition, especially b/c this song meant something to him with Jennifer being pregnant with their twins and touring together, and he selected this song and was dedicating it to her.

Dude...you really should get your ears checked. Friga's versopn isn't remotely close to a "70 out of a 100". Dude sounds like someone is sticking a cattle prod up his sphincter! It's ASTONISHING to me that anyone who believes that is the greatest ballad ever wouldn't be completely offended by that puke-inducing rendition by a dude who can't sing! Save the "average" shit. No.... I think he sounded quite nice on Every Generation and All That Really Matters..... probably because he wasnt trying to sing the range of the great Steve P.... Every Generation is a lyrical masterpiece imho and a highlight to Generations....
