Klingler is a good one, but Wilkinson doesn't work at all. While he never quite turned into the player he was hyped to be, the guy had a 13 year NFL career (which is forever for a D lineman). He averaged about 7 sacks per game over the first 8 years of his career. While those aren't eye-popping numbers, he was at least a serviceable NFL player!

Fuck - 7 sacks per game? That was a hell of an average. HOF material for sure.....

Speaking of Bungals- In the last 19 yrs I would guess at least 75% of Mike Brown & his braintrust bungaled draft picks. It is getting close to 2012 so maybe there are miralces .

If you want to see the worst draft disaster ever all you have to do is tune in this Sunday. If it's not airing in your part of the country, Jamawful will be on national display on Thanksgiving against Dallas. (I'm going to have to eat Turkey early so my stomach is able to clear all it's contents before kickoff!)

I think the only excitement in this game would be for the best punter in the league (Shane Lechler) to try to hit the big board with every kick!

I was thinking.....probably the one draft bungle that comes to mind is Portland and Houston passing up Jordan to pick Olajuwon and Sam Bowie(WHO?) lol

Another one would have to be the NE Patriots passing up Danny Marino, Willie Gault, and Darrell Green to pick up Tony Useless Eason in 1983. They almost had Jim Kelly who went one pick before at 14.

Are you kidding? It might have been dick bad for the Pats to pass, but the Steelers also passed on Dan Marino, who was a Pitt product and who had high hopes of being drafted by the Steelers. Instead of landing Marino, the Steelers decided to draft Gabriel Rivera, D-tackle from Texas Tech! As brilliant as the Rooney's were at building a team, this wasn't one of their field days.

I remember in '04 when they drafted Roethlisberger, Cowher was very high on Offensive Tackle Shawn Andrews, and most of Pittsburgh thought he would be our choice. Me personally, I never thought Roethlisberger would land at #11, and our defense was SO bad in 2003, we were in desperate need of a corner, so I opted for Dunta Robinson, who went to the Texans a pick before at #10. When Ben fell to us, and while we were on the clock we were saying that if they atleast don't take a look at this dude from Miami from Ohio, then it will have the Marino sighting all over again. Of course, they made the right choice.

Here's what Rooney said in his book on passing on Marino.

Off the field, some questions that have surrounded the team for years are being answered in a new book by team chairman Dan Rooney.

"My 75 Years With The Pittsburgh Steelers And The NFL" answers some of the great mysteries, like why the Steelers did not pick University of Pittsburgh quarterback Dan Marino in the 1983 draft.

Rooney writes that he was ready to draft Marino at the urging of a local sports writer, but "I made a mistake. (Instead of telling our front office) I thought it up myself, I told them it was the writer's idea. And that was the end of it."

Years later, in the 2004 NFL draft, that earlier misstep influenced Rooney's draft-day strategy.

"I couldn't bear the thought of passing on another great quarterback prospect the way we had passed on Dan Marino in 1983, so I steered the conversation around to (Ben) Roethlisberger," Rooney writes in the book.

The Steelers also cut Johnny Unitas! DOH!!!

In Kijanna Carter's defense, didn't he mess up his knee pretty bad his rookie season in a pre-season game? The dude never had a chance to show what he had in the NFL. Immediately tearing ligaments in your knee spells doom for any player and Kijanna was just the victim of ill fortune, esp that of a young player who needs all the work he can get just to try to make an impact of a first round draft choice.

I remember thinking WOW the guy was an animal a beast... turned out to be such an UNDERACHIEVER a huge bust... he was all hype and no talent. The worst PICK period.

Your memory is a bit off. Bosworth was NEVER, EVER, EVER remotely close to "incredible". The dude basically had a 2 year career where he very rarely even made any tackles and ended up on the bench!

I meant from the media standpoint, I remember all the hysteria about Brian until that night when Bo ran over his ass. After that Brian was a non NFL player. Like I said, I don't remember the sequence of the years, I was probably drunk when I watched that game.

.. "Bo Knows" was part of the languge .. 8)

Now there's a guy that it would've been really cool to see what his numbers would've been had he not gotten injured and deteriorated like he did.

There were a few guys like that in the NFL... guys like Bo Jackson, Joe Namath, Curt Warner, Sterling Sharpe, Steve Entman, Gale Sayers, Ken Easley, Priest Holmes, and even Earl Campbell - who were just beasts and then suffered catastrophic injuries early in their careers that pretty much ended it. Fortunately Sayers and Namath came along in the days before "exaggerated stats" so they managed to slip into the hall of fame, they wouldn't have if they had played in the last 3 decades.

Also there was that insane running back from Atlanta, what was his name? Riggs? He was a monster.

If I remember correctly he consistently had 800-900 yards a season after missing the first 8 games because he was finishing up his baseball season.

Joey Harrington anybody? David Carr? Tim Couch?

Ryan Leaf def has his place in the ultimate bust of all time. But the guy was a drug addict , head case, and fought with camera men. What do you expect? But Harrington was possibly the worst first round Quarterback of all. He had not one ounce of QB ability and failed miserably in every starting position he's ever held in the NFL.

David Carr was just a culprit of an expansion team. The dude was great with his legs and could add value outside of the pocket. Unfortunate he had no help with the worst offensive lineman ever to grace a football field early in his career. At least he could hold SOME value to a backup position.

Tim Couch had good size for a QB. Lanky. That's about it. Too bad he went to die playing for the Browns, the same road Charlie Frye (lmao) Brady Quinn is heading.

How the fuck did I forget to mention this guy's name? He is DREADFUL and one of the absolute worst QB I've EVER seen come into the NFL! His completion percentage is as low as I've ever seen in the history of the NFL. I think most high school QB's complete their passes at a higher percentage than this dude!

Jamawful truly is terrible. WOW. The guy needs to lose about 30 pounds before he even thinks about doing anything else. He's a lazy embarrassment to the NFL

Last I checked Jamawful had the 34th ranked QB rating.................in a league of just 32 teams!
