Orgasmic Childbirth? --- Is This For Real?

Postby JasonD » Wed Nov 18, 2009 8:55 am

I was fortunate to be able to witness my daughter’s birth. It was beautiful for me, but excruciating for my ex. She cussed & screamed & called me every hateful name she could think of. She bit me on the hand & darn near broke my finger!!! Her experience wasn't anything like the ladies in this video. Why didn’t any of the hospital personnel tell us there was a peaceful & enjoyable option? :?

I've never heard of it, but I find it kind of disturbing that a woman is having a sexual experience while she's having her baby. Those two just don't mix.

They sure mixed when she was concieving though, so why the double standard?

They're two completely different situations. I'm not going to be rubbing one out with my kid present.

I got such mixed feelings about this too. On the one hand, I would have loved our daughter's birth to be as beautiful of an experience for her mother as it was for me. On the other hand, there's something kind of creepy about it. Not sure I would have wanted a whole room full of people watching my ex.... well, you know.

Reminds me of when MJs son was born and MJ asked the doc right after the delivery " how long do we have to wait till we can have sex" , to which the doc replied " I'd wait till he's at least 16"

Oh Jason...you just hit my hot button! (no pun intended!)

I own this entire DVD and it's amazing! And to answer your question....yes, it is possible for some women....and ALL women are capable of having an amazing experience with natural childbirth. Through proper preparation and determination, natural childbirth is a wonderful and beautiful thing. Much of the pain and agony of childbirth is fear-the media has portrayed childbirth as a dramatic and traumatic event so that's what people expect.

You ask "Why didn't any of the hospital personnel tell us there was a peacful & enjoyable option?" Well, I could take a few hours of typing to answer that question. The short answer is that the peaceful, natural childbirth is something that takes preparation-the hospital staff can only do so much by the time the mom comes in in labor. The second answer is that it's just not the medical model of care-medical model is to use every piece of technology (which incidentally has not been shown to improve outcomes), keep mom in bed on monitors; put needles in her arm and give her medications to make labor go faster (and also hurt more) for the convenience of the doctor and/or hospital; medicate her (and the baby) so they don't have to deal with coaching mom through labor.....

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong with a mom having medications in labor-including an epidural-if she wants it, but I do think that meds and technology are WAY overused in childbirth. I also think that natural childbirth is an amazing experience to go though-it's certainly not easy and although the video "Orgasmic Birth" shows many moms who are in total control and not making a sound-it is a mind over matter experience that takes practice and focus.

My advice-next time you have a baby...go to a midwife for care-that's you best bet to have a peaceful and joyful experience-whether in the hopsital or at home.

My ex went with natural childbirth. She was in terrible pain. If I ever find myself in that situation again I will look into that midwife idea you suggested. They do home births, right? That's they way I'd like to go, but of course, it's not my call. I'm not the one going through all the agony. Thanks, Angel. You're so sweet.

Yes, some midwives do home births...I unfortunately will not be because I am joining a practice that is so busy, it's just not feasible to do home births-we often have 2-3 moms in labor at once.

If you are ever in that situation again, I'd recommend a midwife and a water birth.

I was thinking the very same thing. You're making me want to have another baby. I did a lot of Christmas shopping on Sunday & so I've been in one of those "family" moods.

Water births are the BEST!

I once had a 15 year old girl that was in labor, she was not dilated much at all(about 1 centimeter) but was screaming out of control with every contraction-to the point that several times I had nurses run into the room thinking she was delivering. She wanted an epiural but anesthesia was tied up in surgery so I put her in the tub and got her to focus-I sat on the floor next to the tub pouring warm water over her tummy and coaching her through the contractions-in the water she was able to relax and breathe through the contractions. About a half an hour later anesthesia came in so we got her out of the tub and put in an epidural-took about 10 minutes. As soon as they finished the epidural she calmly said "I think I need to push." I checked her and sure enough, she was fully dilated and ready to deliver. Ah, I LOVE jacuzzi tubs for moms in labor!
