Tomo, have you ever READ that ESPN Clarett story???

Booster Handout State has more car dealership owners and restaurantuers giving recruits and players cash, cars and perks then Tressel has sweatervests hanging in his closet.

Just the do the conference a favor for a change and win that bowl game, will ya? :D

lol, you two need to get into a great battle here.. great stuff so far

Hopefully he knows I'm kidding I know Tom's a great OSU and Big11 fan....
He and I talked about OSU's showdown w/ Iowa earlier this year beforehand and we were right, that turned out to be a GD instant classic...

hey the BCS has what they want... 4 undeafeted teams playing each other... ;-) Think about that...now the match ups should be TCU playing bama and Texas playing Boise State...
The smaller schools would love a chance at these power schools...

You ever heard the adage, "That's why they actually play the game?"

For whatever reason, the talent level in college FB is down across the board as far as elite players and elite schools. I wouldn't be so sure about your sweeping conclusion.

History has always shown the bigger schools (Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, LSU) are the haves in football and smaller ones (Boise State, TCU, Utah) are the have nots. They may have random seasons that are spectacular enough to put on a show but the longevity of maintaining it over years is highly unlikely. If you are a hot shot stud high school football player being recruited by the "haves" vs. the "have nots" where you gonna go more than likely? Where the exposure is high. Thank you "haves".....

Tradition and consistency are hallmarks of a great program, no doubt, but year-by-year, it'd be nice to see all the high performing teams get shots at one another. Tradition doesn't matter one bit once the teams are on the field.

Wrong

TCU would give Texas all they could handle if they would play against each other.

I'd give the edge to Bama vs TCU, though not a blow out.

+1

"Gary Patterson has coached the team since December 2000, leading the Horned Frogs to a 73-27 record (.730), including five bowl wins in eight appearances and in 2008 the highest season-ending national ranking (7, AP and 7, ESPN/Coaches) in five decades."

And then there is this year.

Perfect evidence of what I'm talking about. There is no monopoly in sports. Tradition only gets you so far. There's always room for the new guys on the block

Exhibit A: The Big Ten's overall drop-off in depth... it's still solid, but nothing like it once was (I expect Tomulator and JoePa to come rushing in here at this one )

It's the weather, plain and simple. These kids today don't wanna play football in tough, cold weather. There's no old school toughness like there used to be. Perhaps rightly so, but these kids wanna showcase themselves for the next level and the best place to do that is in the beautiful weather of the SEC, PAC-10 or Big 12. I really think the Big 10 schools are gonna have to throw up some massive domes to stay competitive in recruiting in the future.

Just one more reason that college football is fucking moronic! Hopefully the dopes at the NCAA will wake the fuck up one of these days and figure out that football is THE ONLY sport that they don't have a playoff for. Fuck...they probably give clarinet competitions a "playoff". I'm admittedly on record as not a huge college football fan. I think the game is incredibly boring and the skill level simply isn't there to keep my attention for more than 2 minutes. That said, if I were a college football fan, I would be fucking OUTRAGED that these fuckers won't give the fans and the players what they deserve...a playoff system!

I prefer college ball to the pros and the bowl system (MAYBE w/ a +1 game after the bowls) to a playoff.

Too much parity and mediocrity in the pros, which I hope the deep sixing of the salary cap next year will help.

The rivalries are dead to me b/c of the greed and fraternization of the "Me First" NFL players.

I'd say there's a lot more loyalty and a lot less team-jumping for money in the NFL than any other pro team-based league. Plenty of franchise players who play their whole career or nearly all of it in one city.

I really honestly don't know how any one could prefer the bowl system over a play off. That is just beyond me.

I'm a traditionalist of college football, the polls and bowls have decided the champs forever.
Now with the BCS at least you get a guaranteed "Championship Bowl Game" though I agree the ridiculous system for setting #s 1 and 2 needs to be fixed.

SJ, you know damn well that several factors were involved in that game last year. First Bama had a couple of key injuries and suspensions (Neal Smith...)
Second Nick Saban said himself the team went flat after losing to Florida in the SEC Championship. They immediately began preparing for 2009...and Florida again. Honestly, you know the game better than your showing man. If you are as up on college football as you seem to be then you know who had the better team and would win 9 out of 10 times.
I bet it burns some of you up that the SEC will be in their 4th straight National Championship, and will probably win it a 4th straight time....that my friends is called dominance.

Dude, you are looking foolish... those things are all part of the game. You can't make excuses when it benefits you and cry sour grapes when the excuses are being made against your own team's victory.

If the SEC is really so superior in depth and talent, a few injures shouldn't have curtailed Bama's chances. Hell, even had they been flat, if the SEC were as godly as you say it is, they shoulda had no problem regrouping at half-time and coming back in kind. The SEC is a good conference, but how good and how dominant we'll never truly know, because they don't play every body or go through a playoff to collect these so-called "national championships." It's the same that can be said of every other conference.

Right, but the trouble is, the person who decides the "game that really matters" speaks a strange language consisting of 1s and 0s, so I and many others don't put too much stock into it.

well right now its the system in place so you can either accept it or quit supporting college football. I also believe a playoff system should be in effect. Maybe then a really good team with 1 heartbreaking loss would still have a chance in the playoffs.

Absolutely, it's ridiculous that 1 loss can ruin a season. I don't really care much for college football mainly because of the whole system.
