There's not an album I heard in my life that gets a perfect 100%. The closest to it is Giant's Last Of The Runaways, which I would rate 95%.

To be honest I don't believe so much in ratings and I think it would be a good step for Andrew to stop the rating and just write a full review.

I'm pretty critical, also on my own stuff. My last album received raving reviews but if I listen back to it I feel a lot is missing, so I wouldn't even give those ratings to it myself ;-)

What guitar are you playing there anyway? It looks like a thicker Parker, but I'm sure it's not.

A Kramer Paul Dean USA, neck through. It's a fairly rare one I hear. Only mod is the HB, which I replaced by a Super Distortion.

Pretty cool guitar and versatile. It has an on/off switch per PU, so I can combine any of the PU's with the other(s).

Nice. Can't beat a S-S-H pup config. I've always wanted to try a Super Distortion. I've got a SD JB, wonder how it compares to that? Favorite bridge pups these days are my EMG SL in my Luke, the JB in my Schecter, and of course my stock Fender pup on my Strat. I'm moving more and more away from humbuckers as my playing style evolves besides when the material absolutely demands it...

There was a SD JB in the Kramer originally. I replaced it since it was way too bassy, boomy. The Super Distortion is more balanced. I re-used the JB in an ESP to replace its stock HB. In that guitar it works well. I had a mod made so I can switch that JB to SC.

Bassy huh? Very interesting. I've heard complaints the JB is too bright and brittle from many, mostly from the metalheads over at the Petrucci Forum. Guess it all depends on what axe you're loading it in and what sound you're going for.

Guess so. It was uncontrolable in the Kramer. It works well in the ESP, which makes it sound more bright, indeed. Perhaps there's also difference in the builds of this PU. This one is about 25 years old...

Who in the fuck is Thunder or Gun? C'mon Marty, they have to be bands we at least heard of.

Check 'em out. Scottish band Gun's debut album, 'Taking on the World', released in 1989, remains the best debut album I've heard from any band. Better than Van Halen's, better than Def Leppard's, better than Black Sabbath's etc. Very sophisticated melodic rock. And what was even more amazing about it was that the AVERAGE age of the band at the time was something like 17.

Thunder are one of the best known classic rock bands in the UK. To the average rock fan over here they are better known than Journey. Their bluesy classic rock (like a cross between Bad Company and AC/DC) contains some of the best songwriting in the genre. That they never broke in the US was a tragic matter of timing, as the one time they attempted to tour the US back in the 90's was just after grunge had taken control of the airwaves and put paid to any music with melody in it. Thunder sadly broke up this year after 20 years, but they've left a legacy of superb music.

I went on YouTube looking at some of their music. Here they are in 2004. Great guitar solo.

as already mentioned, Thunder is blues hard rock. Bad Company meets AC/DC is probably pretty close. Very melodic though, and one of the best singers out there in Danny Bowes. Just one of many bands that were very popular overseas, but never broke the US market. Timing played a big role, as they came out between Glam and just before the Grunge thing hit the American market--and they were neither. They hit the UK scene in a big way on the Monsters of Rock Donnington 1990 concert. Put on a blinding performance at the show and pretty much stole the show from the big names (Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Poison). That show broke them in the UK, but never broke out--unfortunately. A couple of years earlier, and they might have gotten huge in America--you just never know.

you might want to get out more also--and also remember that what got big in the UK and US aren't necessarily the same thing. Just because it didn't sell 100 million copies worldwide doesn't mean it isn't good--promotion and timing play a huge bit in things. Whitesnake was HUGE in Europe long before America ever heard of them. Journey was huge in the US, but didn't make a huge impact other places. Some countries like Australia (for several obvious reasons) have self-contained musical scene--very few acts broke out, and very few international acts broke in. Overall, success in various countries had a lot more to do with management than actual songs.

Gun is actually a pretty good group, but just never broke out much beyond the UK. Not sure I'd put them in the 100% album category, but they did have some good stuff. Pretty much pure hard rock (with a lot of attitude) staying on the heavier side of things.

Yes I would say so. Bostons's debut contains four or five fantastic songs but also one or two fillers. Gun's debut album contains nine songs with memorable hooks and lyrics that all sound as fresh today as they did 20 years ago.

I just listened the other day to the remastered CD of Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees, and for the type of music it is, I would have to say it's very close, not 100 percent, to a masterpiece. Not a bad song on it.

One of my Favorite CDs. I saw him back in April and he sounded the same as when I saw him in Japan 25 years ago. His voice is ageless. He still tours over there regularly, They love him.
