I mean, she's singing a fuckin slow christmas song, you want her to jump off the monitors and get on the drum riser and rip the cymbal off and cut the drummer's throat and drink the blood while nailing a high D and throwing the metal horns?

You can tell she's nervous as hell by the slight swaying, esp w/ the performance w/ Jon. She'll get over it and she's got a GREAT voice with great control. I'm not huge on women singers in general unless they bring something special to the table like Stevie Nicks, but given the right songs, this girl could go places. Don't compare her to autotuned garbage like Miley Cyrus, please.

It's a lot tougher to be poised and have tons of showmanship when you're trying to get by on talent at 16, rather than image and corporate dreck, ala Miley and Jonas Fagols

From all accounts she was very at home on the stage at the Journey show in Sacramento. I figured being at a smaller gig six months later, she would be more comfortable. It's not her first time on stage, that's why I was expecting more, maybe a little smile to the crowd after they applauded her or something.

Who knows, teenagers.... moody one second, all smiles the next. Maybe she got a shitty text msg right before she went out there

Then she better learn to shake it off, that's what professionals do!!!
She is being rated now on this one performance. As an audience member I paid to listen to her this ONE time...her
performance may determine whether or not I pay a second time!! Someone should teach her that!!

I guess... the whole idea of my first post was that I'd rather judge her on the merits of her voice at this early point rather than performing skills. A lot of great bands started off as terrible live performers. My dad still to this day says the worst show he ever saw was Boston in their early days. They sang NO harmonies, didn't put on a good "show," and had to play More Than A Feeling three times to fill an hour because they didn't have enough songs!

No...she does have a nice voice though and she's cute!!

This is correct, these girls are bursting w/personality which is why so many people love them~YES!!!

Madison has a pleasant voice, i just wasn't feeling the Christmas vibe from her.

Me either...she was just adorable, I felt NOTHING!!!

But the voice is just waiting to be driven!!!
It does makes me wonder about those that rated Martina's perfomance so low
and this one so high...was it the age thing?!!?

For me, I didn't rate Martina's performance low. Really good solid vocals that just didn't take the song anywhere energywise as the song built, but Martina has a beautiful texture to her voice that I like.

I thought Madison's vocals were good, not great. But for a relative newbie at 16 she had strong vocals live.

Martina being the seasoned performer she is should have brought DSB to another level than she did for that particular song.

You mean like this?

lol, I think we were all commenting on the voice...what happened?!?!?

I guess my point is that you can have all the talent in the world and if you are not able
to connect with your audience you're destined to fail!!
It is very important and someone should coach her now!!!
She doesn't have the added security of hiding behind a piano while
someone else wows the audience!!

People can still smile when they are nervous, it
can be done at any age and it don't cost a thang...

We're just not giving her a free pass because of her age. From all accounts she plans on being a professional vocalist. Taylor Hicks, The Jonas Bros., Miley Cyrus, etc. are all around her age. Everyone is quick to trash them on this site. That hasn't even been done here with Madison.

Because she happens to a famous musician's daughter, she should be applauded for a mediocre performance? No.

Taylor's voice is average and very thin and weak live and Miley's isn't very good live either. I've been underwhelmed by both of their performances b/f compared to a studio recording. Taylor is older anyway. I give Madison good marks for her performance and strong vocals, especially adding in her age and not being an experienced professional..

Taylor Hicks- God, isn't he like 50? He looks older than I do and I'm ancient.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

You mean Taylor Hicks was relevant for more than 5 minutes after winning AI? Or wait, was he?

I think that in 5 yrs she may have a chance. Her dad will see that it may be possible. She is still young and not everyone is Brenda Lee in this age because there is too much competition via cable shows, etc.

So, do you think Jon's appearance here was purely a way to get Madison in front of more people? Maybe that's why she was not comfortable? Did Jon and Steve interact?

See, that's the real scoop we want - what went on between JC & SA?
Any backstage chit-chat? Anything onstage?

Merry Christmas Madison, you have grown to be such a talented young woman. Good luck in all you do. She has grown so much from that sweet baby Jon showed us years ago. God bless her and her family.

I like her voice. :D

Madison's the real deal. She's still young and has plenty of time to build up her stage chops. But I have heard her casually belt out a few tunes just standing around and hanging out before and it was frightening how good she was, I mean American Idol final 3 good, as far as her voice goes. So many people her age have no control, no pitch, and simply try to oversing without any idea what they're doing. And Madison has the goods. The music industry is a giant pile of shit, however, and there's no telling if she'll get her break, even with Pops there to guide her along.
