What is a NAMM and why should I go?

Postby MBPL » Fri Jan 08, 2010 9:45 am

Actually, now know what it is 'cause I researched NAMM online, but a couple of weeks ago before I knew anything about and was invited to attend. At first I said yea, thinking it was a musical event. Turns out it is a music trade show! I am neither a tradesperson nor a musician so I bowed out. Another friend of mine wants to get his badge, he is a musician and knows a few people. He wants me to attend with him, but I will feel out of place being at this thing without something to do. I am not good with crowds of strangers unless I am drinking or in character. My question is, because you all are so music savvy, should someone like me attend if I can get in and if so will I be allowed to go in costume wearing the Jamaican Carmen Miranda outfit, but instead of wearing fruit on my head I will glue tiny musical instruments and film myself looking for Steve Perry or something like that. Might even find a few other musicians who are willing to play.

What do you all think? Have a great, YAY ALMOST FRIDAY!, evening. :D MBPL

You sure can! If you go to NAMM and start hanging out with cool people, then you will become cool by association. Over time you will eventually regain some of that coolness and become an independent cool. So on a second thought,,, Go! :) simple 8)

It is the National Association of Melodicrock Morons, and no, I wouldn't go if I were you. These people will not be a good influence on your life.

This might be a pretty good reason.

Albuquerque, NM – December 2009 - Lectrosonics, recognized the world over as a leading manufacturer of wireless microphone systems and audio processing products, is pleased to announce the appearances of instrumentalists Ricky Phillips of Styx, Stevie D. of Buckcherry, Neal Schon of Journey, and Johnny Hiland at the Lectrosonics booth (#6698, Hall A) during Winter NAMM, held January 14 – 17 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA. For guitarists and bass players interested in “cabled” sound quality combined with the ease of movement and freedom from “dropouts”, the Lectrosonics IS400 Digital Hybrid Wireless® instrument system merits a close look.

Well, I've already met Mr. Schon's mom...

...Why not meet him? But, I am not sure if I'm going, my older male friend (just a friend) likes 'em young, no more than 25. I have a feeling I might get tossed aside for his ex or something. I will keep you posted. Enjoy your evening! MBPL :D

Hey Dan! From what I can remember yes it was fun! And I would think Mrs. Schon had to be afraid of me. First, I breathed JD all over that poor tiny woman. Second, I slurred something about my dying mom and how "Neal should be proud to have you as his mom..." Good freaking lord! I am one hot mess! *snort*!

Everyone who commented here...THANK YOU! But, my dumb-ass friend? Well, I think he may flake and bring his ex afterall. Sorry for putting him on blast here, talking his business, but I swear if he did not crack me the hell up I'd be kicking his ass right now!

Enjoy! MBPL

After putting up with Neal, Perry and the whole Journey ordeal I doubt a little slurred speech and Jack Daniels breath bothered her a bit! It would have been piss your fucking pants funny if you had introduced yourself as Neal's "baby mama."

Bwahaha      Spat coffee on my keyboard, thanks Dan, you turd! Yea, I could be his baby mama, sure! Back in the day when Neal was rockin' that blonde afro or Jew-fro as I have heard it called, he looked just like a light-complexioned brotha! Hell, even Miles rocks a "fro" from time to time!

Is NAMM open to the public now?

I used to go when I was a kid, when it used to be held in Chicago. It wasn't open to the public then, but my dad was able to get me and my sister in. That's where I met EVH in '86 and Neal in '87.

Check back in a week when NAMM is happening. Or better yet, book the next flight to Anaheim and see it for yourself.
