Your favorite JY composition.?

Postby gr8dane » Fri Feb 12, 2010 11:12 am

Well we all know Dennis was Styx.JY was was really just a fluke being in the wrong place at the right time.
He did however contribute with some minor compositions and not much else.
But is there anything worth mentioning?
Lets find out.

***.None because JY got rid of Dennis, and is a mean bad mean ass,but if Dennis had not got sacked, and was still in Styx,I would not mind JY and most of his songs, even Eddie.

Midnight ride ,Miss America are left off because ehhh........They don't count.

but he had that rockstar look about him ....

you left off "Heavy Metal Poisoning" from Kilroy Was Here on your poll.

Back when I liked Styx, I liked him doing Miss America in concert, even if he did feel it was more important of a song than it really was.

You're wrong.

JY brought to Styx a heavy influence of hard rock. Remove him and you remove an essential part of the entire band.

Mike Baird was never a member of Journey.

The only thing at this point that would be removed is that he's the last original member of the band.

Again, for a while I thought he was pretty cool....Back when I was 11 and heard Paradise Theater for the first time.

since about 04 or so, he just looks like a bored gumpy guitar player. My opinion of course.

That's not what I saw last summer...definitely didn't look bored or grumpy at all.

Besides that, the was not talking specificaly about TODAY. Look at the songs posted and first two post...they are talking from the beginning. Removing JY is like removing Gregg Rolie - it would be a totaly different band.

I will say this ... he was behind me and Tito in the will call line in 1998 when we were in line for our Journey tickets and he seemed like a pretty cool guy. I didn't know who he was until Tito almost backhanded a fucking hole in my chest as he said "That's JY behind us!!!"

He has no talent and is a douchebag to boot.

Is gr8dane one of froy's alter egos?

JY backed up the special kind of J A$$ Tommy Shaw. I have seen DDY several occasions, but not one dime for the cover band Styx.

Why? Because he's an idiot who doesn't know much about Styx and compares him to somebody who was never even a member of Journey? Sounds to me like somebody who doesn't even know what he's talking about.

And, I have seen them both. DDY's a bore compared to a Styx concert. At this point, I'd rather see Styx then Journey.

hmm, what's this doin' here??

JY's vocal harmonies are an essential part to Styx's sound. Listen to his garbage solo albums and you can hear that Styx harmony sound. He also brought that mega cool guitar break to Renegade. That earns him some respect in my book.
I'm not wild about his voice, but there were some good moments from him: Midnight Ride, Put Me On, Great White Hope, Half Penny-Two Penny, Heavy Water, These are the Times, Miss America (the recorded version) to name a few.

I don't like the way he's singing lately. WAY too much vibrato that gives him that "Cowardly Lion" vibe. If he toned it down a bit, he'd probably be okay. I also don't like the way he sings his solo songs live. WAY too over the top and screechy. Still, got no problem with JY.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
