I used to smash pumpkins on Halloween as a kid, and I can play a decent bass guitar. Does that qualify me?

Bull, not well they can't. Let's put you up against a Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo or (RIP) Marcel Jacob and let's see how well you would do Steve?! :P

Any moron can write on a message board too.

A good bass player is what makes the band, together with a real good drummer. Just look at Toto or Phil Collins, who's miles ahead of Journey when it comes to feel and groove.

My opinion too. Favorite instruments in a band, in order.........vocal pipes, bass, drums, guitar, keyboard. I'm generally more drawn to rock songs with a great bass groove. Love this bass line........ Talisman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnhtpc1bNSU

I was in a club once when one of their songs came on. I turned and looked and the girl standing next to me, nodded and said "Smashing Pumpkins". She said "Thanks very much"

Steve Perry can play bass, right? Shredding his vocals shouldn't have damaged his fingers.

Smashing Pumpkins are no joke.

If I had a better bass, much more talent, and a video camera I'd certainly audition.

...wait, seriously?

Ross may be a lot of things, but let's face it, he's not the funkiest bass player in the world. He's adequate. Maybe even proficient - but other than that...sorry I just can't go there with you, MG.

He's no Geddy Lee that's for sure. But he'll play what Neal tells him to play and that's adequate. Randy Jackson already has another gig.

Shame on you for not liking Gabriel! That Mr. Big song was pretty sweet though.

Here's another with major groove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Vk6COp6kY&feature=PlayList&p=E9C566F64EF04361&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=10

Well as usual your posts are turning into 100% garbage. The whole gay jokes here and there were funny for a while. Bur you sound like a fucking broken record player. You ran out of material long time ago. Although once in a blue moon you use your brain and come up with one good comeback and make us chuckle , your percentage of garbage posts totally overshadows those few posts and makes you the official idiot of this village.
