i used to love them CDs that you coujld unscrew and turn the a and b sides around - or stick in a different tape by a completey differnt artitst.

I remeber doing that to a copy of a friends VAN Halen 1984, carefully geting the cassette apart. surgically removing the spindles and carefully putting Karen Carpenters greatest hits.

Absolutely. Many Malmsteen fans and Malmsteen himself, for that matter, don't care as much for it. They consider it too commercial. I don't see that it's any more so than most of his other stuff. There are some kick-ass tunes on that album, especially rising force. Even the tracks that aren't so "metal" like "Dreaming (Tell Me)" are awesome.

Rising Force, Dreaming, Crystal Ball, Faster than the Speed of Light, and Krakatau are KILLER. I love Crystal Ball in particular

crystal ball was a good tune to jam to. ;)

THAT TAPE WAS GREAT TO LISTEN TO IN THE CAR

Durable? You are joking right? Those were the days. They would hardly ever play right after a few weeks. They'd always give you that warbled sound. Sometimes if you pushed the eight track tape to one side it would work better, but usually needed more techncial help... a matchbook or quarter. Then having to deal with the fading, cracking and warping of the 8 track tape. Those were the days.

Had to love the amount of space those suckers took up. I had one tape case that wouldn't have fit in many of today's cars. But the fake 8 track tape "stash" was cool.

There are some songs that I hear on the radio or on cd/mp3 and still expect to hear the break from one track to the next.

Sorry to move off cassettes. Hardly bought any as I recorded all my own off vinyl.

Wore the hell out of a ton of 8 tracks (Boston/Boston, Agents of Fortune/Blue Oyster Cult, Leftoverature/Kansas, Night Moves and Stranger in Town/Bob Segar, Equinox/Styx, Flat as a Pancake/Head East, Foreigner/Foreiner, BTO Greatest Hits, Rumours/Fleetwood Mac and Best of Bread (Parking purposes only!)...to name a few.

My first cassette was probably Journey Infinity, given to me by my friend's brother. My cassette tape player did eat a few cassettes I guess. That was a trick using a pen or pencil to try to rewind the tape back on the cassette.

Another interesting thread would be what kind of stereo, speakers and amp/equalizer folks had in their cars back in the day. Mine was worth way more than my car.

Sorry to ramble. It is actually clear and well on the way to 80 today. Don't want to work.

I stand by my statement!!! The 8 tracks outlasted the cassettes 2 to one!! You didn't take

I used to splice the tape on cassettes when I recorded one that had a lot of blank space left. I would just cut out all the blank tape and then put it all back together. Sometimes it ruined the tape. Sometimes it didn't.

8 TRACKS sucked big time... in the middle of the song, it would stop and then click over to the next number... WTF???
saying that the 914 Porsche I drive a few times a summer has an 8 track in it... ;-) the only tapes left are a kansas and a wish bone ash... that my older brother had.

For some reason which escapes me right now, I only had two cassettes that I listened to for like two years. Aerosmith Rocks and the Eagles On the Border, when they wore out I just replaced them.

I forgot about the Breakin' Soundtrack. When I decided that was going to be black, along with drinking Crown Royal on a daily basis, I wore that tape out, especially the Chaka Khan song.

* Breakin... Theres No Stopping Us by Ollie and Jerry
* Freakshow On the Dance Floor by Bar-Kays
* Body Work by Hot Streak
* 99 1/2 by Carol Lynn Townes
* Showdown by Ollie and Jerry
* Heart Of the Beat by 3 V
* Street People by Fire Fox
* Cut It by Re Flex
* Aint Nobody by Rufus and Chaka Khan
* Reckless by Chris The Glove Taylor, David Storrs and Ice T

BTO Greatest Hits was on my list of worn out 8 tracks. If you analyzed the portion of the tape that held "Looking out for #1" you'd find it looked almost brand new however.

Interesting selection...I like it better than "The Final Countdown".

same here.
Better songs. More guitars. And not "overproduced" like TFC. Raw , heavy Rock&Roll. I Think even their debut album was better than TFC.

The debut still had a touch of their progressive roots, which I also like, although I don't think the songwriting was quite as good.

very true. That's why I like "Start From The Dark " a lot. Great songwritting , but more prog/hardrock than their TFC-stuff.

Another cassette I wore out was "Odyssey" by Malmsteen. All 12 tracks are great if you ask me.

Love that album.

The 2nd album had some good ones too. "Road of a Thousand Dreams" is good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBFGnPzC3vQ (lame copy of the video, looks like someone taped it off their TV, LOL). "As the Candle Burns" is pretty good too.

Oh BTW thanks for the thread  . I won't move it up by posting in it since it doesn't seem others like it  , but you're sweet, thank you! And here I thought only the pretty ladies here got APB threads, that should have had just Lynn's name on it  .

Oh I guess on topic with the thread: I wore out four copies of DL's Hysteria on tape. I think in a 5 year time frame starting from it's release in '87 I believe, lol.
