My social life is already destroyed because of this dump and the idiot management I work for. I can't go anywhere or doing anything, I can't date and I can't have any hobbies because I practically live in that place. I put out dozens of applications a week and I never get bite from anybody so that makes it worse. I kinda feel like a slave.

Pretty much, all the overtime is mandatory. The only way to get out it is to use vacation or personal day or call off and take an unexcused absence. That parts bugs me, taking a vacation day for a day we're not supposed to be there anyway.

Bank the extra cash you are making and look at the positive side of it. You never know if your job could go away in an instant and then you'd be glad you were getting all of that extra pay.

They are heavy machine operators (backhoes, etc.) and don't work year round for the most part. I'd hate 60 hrs per week if that was all of the time but not just to catch up. My guy has been off (other than 2 weeks here and there) for 5 months and he's thinking about leaving his current employer for a steady job. (He labors for a living) Over the last few yrs. the work has dwindled down to nothing for him and his co-workers so they started going elsewhere. (Partly the company's fault, long story) Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Lot of people out there need 60 hrs a week though. Hang in there and be thankful you have a job to complain about.

That sounds illegal to me unless you're salaried.

For $9 an hour? 60 hours a week at the pay rate doesn't very far when your student loans are $400 a month. I still can't afford an apartment so I'm stuck at home.

Nothing inherently wrong with unions. In fact, we owe a lot of our prosperity to them. They made it possible for the average joe to go to work and make a living wage for him and his family and curbed intolerable abuses.
Nowadays, like most other initially well-conceived and even well-executed institutions, they are totally corrupt, useless, and a detritus on most of the major sectors of our economy. The constant abuses of the system by the union employees and bosses alike, as well as the companies' caving to their absurd demands time and time again, combined to ruin the manufacturing, auto, and hell, even some pro sports industries. Just look at what a joke MLB has become, for example.

Sounds like the place is on the verge of going under. Get your resume out there. Or you can always get your Easy Bake Oven out and start baking cookies for a bake sale.
P.S. - Are you in Mexico? I didn't realize there were any manufacturing plants left in the USA.
