No, it's an aquired taste, like most bitter things - coffee, tea, beer, wine.

And I think people start drinking coffee because it's one of those things associated with being a grownup, as generally you have to be older before you're allowed to drink it - though I see a lot of teenagers at Starbucks in the mall acquiring the taste earlier. When you start working too, it's socially acceptable, usually free, and readily available. Don't get into the habit - there is nothing wrong with water and many of the people at the last place I worked didn't drink coffee either. We weren't allowed to have beverages (not even bottles of water) out in front of customers as it didn't look professional, but we could have them if we were back in the lab - my coworkers got a kick out of me showing up with a big Slurpee.

coffee can drag me out of the bed in the morning. I don't get beer. It's disgusting, bitter, and can't imagine why people crave it on a summer's day.

You act surprised - when have I ever been less than forthright with you?  (Oh, and btw Deano - if your semen tastes bitter, you need to change your diet. I recommend a bit more fruit.)
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Life would be terrible without beer. Nothing better than running around playin sports for 2 or 3 hours on a hot Saturday morning and just downing beer after beer immediately afterwards.

I hate the taste of all alcohol, but I drink it to extremes for obvious reasons. :) I'd much rather have a Coke than a beer for taste purposes, but Coke doesn't get me higher than a kite. Why do you all who met me think I drink each and every beer in one single gulp? I chug every beer, because I cannot stand the taste. I honestly have not sipped a beer in 20 years.

And as for coffee, I just chugged a pot and a half and am buzzing like a fuckin swarm of bees.

Excuse me Dr Deb. :) It's a guy thing..we just love to get fucked up, that's all. We can act stupid and not give a shit...it's great. Even your hero Soto does it. :D

As for Kokanee, when I first visited Vancouver, I was 20 years old, and went into the Shark Club in the floor of the Sandman Hotel, right across the street from GM Place(you know, that arena where they play playoff hockey? )..anyway, I got so drunk off that shit, I was photographed hugging the Gretzky statue they have in the entrance to the bar. I sang O Canada for Karaoke...said 'fuck it, give me the mic,' and proceeded to belt it out without a single hiccup. The place went hog wild, and I got caught up in the moment and ripped off my Canucks t shirt and ran around giving high fives to all the drunks. I will never forget having a raging semi, and it looked like I was jousting everyone for shit's sake.

God created plants for us to use them. Coffee is a great plant. All natural. So's tea and cannabis.

To me Coffee = Fuel. I'd be a vegetable without my daily dose of caffeine. I dunno what it is about it, but coffee wakes up my brain, makes me creative, gives me physical energy...Sipping on a nuclear hazelnut coffee as I type... :D

p.s. Deano, why don't you use your free time to write a series of true stories? Here's a working title: "Certifiably Insane: The Canuck Chronicles"

coffee with a little nondairy creamer and a little sugar or sugar substitute, great. Dunkin' Donuts coffee is the best for my preference, way better than Starbucks, which is more bitter.

Basically it's cocoa with a caffeine kick and I have to limit it to one a day since it's like a dessert.

If you want to wake up in a hurry, try 'Stay Alert' gum - it's a caffeinated gum used by the special forces. I have it in cinnamon (which tastes pretty bad, but you only chew for 5 minutes) and it works without making you jittery. I have to try another flavour when I run out of cinnamon - hopefully the spearmint isn't so bad.

Back in the mid-80's when I went to Japan for the first time, I found a gum called "Black-Black" out in town one day. I bought some and tried it. It was the strongest menthol flavor I ever had in my life, almost like putting a dab of Vicks vapor rub in your mouth, only for the first 60 or so seconds though and then the gum mellows out. I chewed this brand of gum for years before I found out that it was packed with caffeine.

Brief description of this gum: "This Lotte Black Black gum was recognized in Wired Magazine! Stay focused with this caffeinated, intensely minty Black Black gum. Black Black derives its soft charcoal color from cacao and also contains ginseng, oolong tea extract, and vitamin b3 for enhanced performance."

As for a strong brand of coffee, the strongest I've ever had was Peet's Coffee. Not sure if Peet's is nation wide or not, but if you had it where you are, you would know it since it is extremely strong.

You might find it in Asian markets where they import popular products. They have different kinds of caffeinated gum at the 7-11, but I haven't tried those.

I really never acquired a taste for it (and didn't try), but I've heard Chimay beer (Belgian import) is supposed to be good and at 7% alcohol by volume, it probably produces a quick buzz.

Well, to me, beer is pisswater. Looks the same going in as it does going out, no real difference but the temperatures. When I was young and saw people drinking what looked like yellow water with bubbly foam on the top, sort of reminded me of a toilet bowl freshly filled up with piss, not too appetizing to the palate.

Seriously, I never drank beer and I never intend to drink beer. Alcohol overall to me, I've had friends give me a sip of hard stuff and I refuse to put into my body something that tastes like it runs yard equipment.

Plus pretty much all my relatives on my father's side of the family are alcoholics and some of them have been in treatment as early as 13 years of age. I have a few uncles and cousins who were killed in alcohol related accidents and some of my great uncles who died at relatively young ages due to long term alcohol abuse. I've even seen how alcohol destroyed a few marriges in my family as well. Seeing that in my own family turned me into an advicate of sorts against drinking. Nothing good comes out of drinking and you won't accomplish too much from doing it. Sure there is a difference between abuse and a drink here and there. However it's a worthless cause and I firmly have no tolerance for any of it. Thirsty???....there's plenty of water and fruit juices to choose from that are readily available.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.
