No shit GI Jane- We better make sure we give it back too, because the time has come, I think. To say fair is fair is obvious.

  I wondered who would be the first... :D

Well considering you lazy assed fuck, that I have been slaving like Kutafuckingkentay overnight, you should be first on this.

What the hell are you talking about homo?

I was kidding about you be a lazy assed fuck, but was saying that I worked like a slave all night, or I would have dropped the Midnight Oil reset on here first. :)

Hell, I can BE lazy now! I have a guy enlisting today, and this enlistment completes my biggest goal in recruiting. I have always wanted to earn an Eagle award, and after today, I will have earned it! To earn an Eagle, you have to exceed your yearly mission by 125%. I've come close in the past, but this is the first time in 9 years that I've earned it. It's a big-ass bronze eagle statue, and you also get an Army Commendation medal. I'm not a big person on medals, and don't have a "Love Me" wall in my office, but I have just wanted that damn eagle for years.

Now that I've achieved it, they won't let me put another person in until October. I'll basically be screwing off until then (and harrassing all of you in here!).

Sorry you're having to work nights Deano, that sucks! I've done it many times, and don't envy you at all. It always messed up my whole damn sleep/eat schedule, and I always felt exhausted! :?

Congrats Jim!

Seeing as how you live Down Under, I should hope you have seen them more often than I.

However, how anyone could have seen such a LEGENDARY and GREAT live band that many times and still think the bands you listed are far superior...well...let's just say you have different criteria for judging live acts.

I agree to disagree with you on this one.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you haven't seen Hoodoo Gurus or Mental As Anything live, given that you seem to be unable to comment on either, which makes your assertions rather pointless. MO is a great band, and has some amazing, fantastic material. I'd even rate most of their music as better than that of HG or MAA, BUT!! when it comes to the energy, the excitement, the adrenaline pumping off the crowd, the sense of wild fun that gets projected during a gig, then, in my experienced opinion, both the Hoodoo Gurus and Mental As Anything rate far higher than Midnight Oil. It's no comment on the music, and everything to do with the live setting and the feeling the band generates. You may not agree, that's fine - just don't tell me I'm wrong in mine, especially if you haven't seen all three bands play live multiple times.

This simply put...puts your argument where it belongs.

In the crapper.

Tell me The Oils don't EXPLODE on stage.

LEGENDARY. HG is powerful but, this in on "another plane".

Really.

Many elements of that song sound like this one (just not as good ... though they're both very mediocre):

Ditto. Same with the Mentals. Just ok.

Best - Jimmy Barnes circa 1987 (forget about him now!!), Inxs, Noiseworks, The Angels, Spy Vs Spy, Screaming Jets, Kings Of The Sun.

Worst - Badloves, Triffids, Jimmy Barnes post 1990...

hmm....I'd rate Cold Chisel circa East/Circus Animals as a better live show than anything Barnes did solo. Forget the Last Stand as his voice was shot, but both Swingshift and the Rockpalast dvd have their share of spine-tingling moments. When firing on all cylinders, that was one tight live band. Hard not to be with the talent involved.

The first Jimmy Barnes solo band was pretty darn impressive also, judging by the bonus dvd that came with the Working Class Man reissue a few years ago. Obviously cut down as I'm sure he played more than 45 minutes, but that was one rocking show--and probably better than the Freight Train Heart band, though that was quite good also. I think he changes band lineups too much these days to get the killer live band sound that only comes with time and chemistry.

re: current stuff....must say the Out in the Blue album was a welcome return to form after some very dissappointing stuff (ie Double Happiness). Not much rocking, though the live versions were heavier, but songwriting-wise, it stands up pretty well to my ears. Going sober seems to have done him well. Be interesting to see what the new "rock" album sounds like. One of the dodgy live versions on youtube has a pretty good No Second Prize-ish vibe going on, but live sound vs. studio recording can be very different. Either way, it's about time for him to make a real rock record again.

I never cared for it either. Both Barnes and INXS did far better songs. Of course, it is a cover from the late 60s, and I never much cared for the Easybeats. Maybe that explains it.

That is definitely true. I probably just dig it more cuz it's from The Lost Boys. Cool, didn't know it was a cover either. BTW, like reading your posts, you seem to know alot about alot of different music and vocals.
