or Bill Buckner

Bill Buckner? I don't blame him one iota.

4 people more deserving of hatred...

Mcnamara - all year long Buckner was pulled late I'm games for defensive purposes in favor of Dave Stapleton...Buckner had a bum leg. No reason for him to be in there at all.

Bob Stanley - not only did he throw the wild pitch that moved Ray Knight into scoring position, but he ignored him once he got there...Knight had a gargantuan lead, Spike Owen had daylight, and Stanley never even looked back...had him picked by TWO feet!

Rich Gedman - Stanley was charged with a wild pitch, but Rich should have corraled that ball..

Calvin Schiraldi - giving up that lame HR to Ray Knight in game 7...
Tom Brady IS the G.O.A.T.

Dude, Dr J wasn't all that. I just don't get how he was seen as so great. Big deal, he could dunk. Hell, so could I. He couldn't rebound, never defended. He was an older Vince Carter. Dunk dunk dunk.

As for Pistol Pete, best player the Jazz ever had. He was stellar at LSU too.

As for my own personal hero, I would have to say Coach Wooden.

Pete fucked us, his fans. I loved his hustle and admiration for the game. However, when he committed the worst sin a baseball player can commit, gambling, ie, fucking with the integrity of the game, he lost me. He is no different than those four scumbags in Journey who mimed their way through three years of 'music.' He/they don't respect their profession, although I think if you asked Pete today, he unlike Schon, Friga and Valory, would apologize. Valory would just tell any newspaper that would listen, that we are just cokeheads and drunks and that they were indeed live.

I can't believe someone doesn't like Peyton Manning. Just the commercials alone are enough . Then someone mentioned John Elway and the final straw was Frantic Fran Tarkington. Seems it was the 70's and when Roger the dodger Staubach and Frantic Fran played each other the running backs were on light duty. I can't remember the # of yrds Tarkington picked up, but a major magazine did an article titled Frantic Fran Tarkington Running Back ! Football seemed different yrs ago. Joe Namath & Johnny Unitas on the same field was incredible. Footballs flying !!!

The Manning boys are awesome!!! They (Peyton in particular) are hated because they're good guys who are great at their craft. Anybody that will 'flick a booger off his finger' on TV for the sake of teaching a kid how to throw a football gets my vote!!! It's jealousy, pure and simple. Just as amazing is anyone who can 'hate' Coach K. I know of NO circumstances why he should be hated, except that he knows how to win, and his consistency at such drives people crazy.

I can help you out there, these stats courtesy of your local FRAN TARKENTON fan club chapter -

3,686 pass completions,
47,003 passing yards,
342 touchdowns.
3,674 yards rushing
total offence 50,677 yards – almost 29 miles or 500 football fields –
80.4 pass rating

Of course that doesn't include the number of yards Fran covered running around in the backfield Dude could run around the backfield with five guys chasing him, no blockers, eat a sandwich, wave to his family in the crowd, run around some more and then complete a pass to Sammy White

Gin & Tonic- That was an accurate and funny post. After reading I did find some actual footage . I was surprised that Merlin Olsen hated his talents. He did make fools out of the defensive lineman. Check out Roger Staubach's hail mary pass. I tell you when they played against each other ,it was NEVER a boring game.

DONT mention the Hail Mary Pass. I was only 4 1/2 years old when that happened, but that was the day I learned to swear. We were all sitting around the living room in Minnesota - dad, grandad, two of my uncles watchin the game on CBS chowing down on lefse , lutefisk, (Noreweigan Minnesotans eat that stuff at Christmastime), ritz crackers and squirty cheese from a can, having a good ole family time. Two minutes after the hail mary pass I asked my elders " so what does gawd dammit, , shit, asshole, son of bitch, you gotta be fuckin shittin me mean? and why are all of you shouting it at once??
