What's new?!?!

I don't think he demonstrated that through his '83 interviews, I'm thinking of the Street Talk interview and earlier. He seemed much more open, looked at the camera, was very engaging and didn't spew out the same phrases. The most recent interview I remember hearing with Dennis Miller was controlled by SP with the same stories, sound bites, phrases that we've heard before. Very forced laughing and just sounded like he was dying to be somewhere else.

Something happened to him around 1984 and he seemingly lost it in 1986 and on. I can see the breakup with Sherrie, the rigors of touring life and the death of his mother being the perfect storm to crush his world, but I think he strung along and fucked the wrong people.

All performers want attention, in this regard Steve Perry was the same.
It just seems that for whatever reason, he no longer wanted it like he once did.
He seems almost wistful, and when he is praised, he kind of deflects it away..... I'm sure he likes to be rememberd and all that, but to be 'out front' ...its like he just stopped 'wanting it'.

Wow, you folks read WAY too much into someone's demeanor from an interview over a decade ago.

I actually posted it because some people don't know much about the pre-TBF plans to replace Perry. This is the first I've heard or read Perry, Schon or Cain speak of it.

At 01:33 / 10:35 in the video

Steve talks about selling stuff from his private collection, at the shows, selling his private little stash. What did he mean by that? bootlegs, demo's, un-released stuff?.

He was selling the CD Singles of You Better Wait and Missing You. Each disc had the single along with some other unreleased tracks. Pretty much all of the tracks eventually made it to his Greatest Hits package, except for the remake of If You Need Me, Call Me and possibly What Was I To Do ( I don't have any of the discs on hand now, so I can't confirm). I actually bought both CD Singles at Tower Records just before I saw his show in Philly.

Hey Art, oh right. That's interesting, thanks for the information. I would never of guessed, I mean that would of been very cool back then for the fans, because I remember I got the first Steve Perry Greatest Hits + 5 unreleased CD for a present was back in 1998/99, so everyone had to wait years to get that stuff.

Cheers!.

No problem! The Missing You CD5 also had the Missing You Writing Session with Tim Miner (a full version of the session is floating around here on the board somewhere). The writing session, in my opinion, is the purest 'official' recording of Perry's voice. No polish, no tricks, just pure, beautiful vocals. It also squashes any suggestion that his voice was officially toasted at the time of this recording or prior to it.
