Why does Rush always play at outdoor venues in summer?

Postby Voyager » Sat Aug 21, 2010 5:07 am

I was thinking about going to see Rush this Sunday in Saint Louis, but they are playing outdoors (as usual) and the "feels like" temperate will be 102F - not to mention the suffocating midwest humidity. Neil Peart will be sweating his ass off, and I cannot imagine how getting heat stroke will help him play the drum solo on YYZ any better. I Remember what happened to Deen Castranova from playing in the heat last year... he was hospitalized for it.

I'm going to see Scorpions and Dokken tonight in the air conditioning. I would go see Rush on Sunday, but it's not worth baking in the heat to me... I've seen them about eight times anyway - and many of those times were in the July or August midwestern heat and humidity.

I know, I need to grow some balls and think about how the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan would sweat it out to see Rush. But I'm going to pass this time.

trust me, I seriously doubt St. Louis humidity and heat is any worse than NC heat and humidity. Bring on the snow... (oh wait, we don't get any of that either--all we get is ice).

It just seems like Rush always plays Saint Louis when it is the hottest in July or August. May, June, or September would be better.

Most bands play outdoors in the summer. I've seen Journey more out (doors) than in (doors) especially at the county fairs in 2005 (?).

I've seen Journey more times outside than inside. Especially when the county fair is going on. Not sure what 200r is though.

Good for you, and it's going to be even cooler by the time Don finally hits the stage. Just don't leave after Scorpions and miss them.

Not a big Rush fan or of Getty's voice but decided to see them on this tour.. It was a really fun concert with some hilarious HD videos. Loved all the instrumentals, they all shine on those. They actually played 2 new songs off their upcoming album. They were pretty good and the majority of the people standing stayed on their feet. Rush has some pretty diehard fans.

It was a beautiful evening out on the shores of Lake Michigan. Perfect weather (since this was rescheduled due to a rainout earlier in the month). I'm just glad I went since I thoroughly enjoyed it.

From what I have been forced to listen to ( I had a lot of friends that were fans back in the old days ) I can appreciate the musicianship, they are great. But I could never get past Lee, he's like the Anti-Perry.
