It was intentional. They were going to play "Dead Or Alive." At the last minute, they dropped DOA and played DSB because Anwar Sadat had been assassinated and they didn't feel DOA was appropriate. They did a shorter version of DSB to fit in the limited time slot.
P.S. I always thought Tom Snyder was a prick.
