The new HEART CD debuts at number 10 on the Billboard Charts

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

The #10 Debut is a little bit misleading. The album moved 22,000 units. While, I'm happy for the band , I have to see this for what it is. A melodic rock band who who's diehards answered the call if only for the first week. Heart moved less than 15k this week, which still keeps the record in the Top 40 album sales over all.

Sara Bareilles debuts this week at #1 with 90K sold. To put that in perspective, Journey's Revelation debuted at #5 with over 100k back in 2008. The Billboard album chart is becoming irrelevant rather quickly. The Magazine is spending more and more of it's typing space lauding the acts on the Digital Download charts as of the last few months. For measuring an artist's success, the field has changed drastically. If you can't sustain 200,000 downloads a week for your latest single, you're not going to be getting any major accolades anytime soon. It's definitely a new dawn in the music business.

Listened to the whole album again yesterday while driving and it is definitely growing on me.

It's nice to have a real band playing with real singers making real music.

I think the chart number is in the 30's now, but what matters is RED VELVET CAR is another chart topping album for the sister who are HEART!

They're hanging in this week at #80 (two spots behind Journey's Greatest Hits at #78 ). Also, "Hey You" debuts on the A/C Chart at #30.

Linkin Park scores its fourth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. "A Thousand Suns" debuts with 241,000 units sold, one third of the debut numbers from their last release in 2007 as complete album sales numbers continue to erode, even for the newer generation of acts.

man, the music biz is sure screwed up...

Is it true that soft sales aren't calculated? They SHOULD be. To judge the whole industry on outdated media (CDs), is dumb.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

They are calculated, even the singles are added into the count. If a million songs, regardless if it's only one, two or three separate tracks are downloaded from one particular album, they divide those digital sales by 10 (the standard number of tracks a normal album would contain) and count that as 100,000 sales, combined with the hard sales toward the total of that particular album, and rank it as such on the Billboard 200 chart.

LOS ANGELES — Court records show rocker Nancy Wilson has filed for divorce from writer-director Cameron Crowe after more than 20 years of marriage.

The Heart singer-guitarist cited irreconcilable differences for the divorce, which was filed Sept. 16.

The court filings say Wilson and Crowe separated in 2008.

They were married in 1986 and have twin 10-year-old sons. Wilson is seeking joint custody.

Crowe is known for directing films such as "Jerry Maguire" and "Say Anything." He won an Oscar for writing the screenplay for the film "Almost Famous."

Hey Saint..You and I agree on something. She is amazing saw Heart in 86, Y & T opened! Ann is a treasure. I am seeing Heart live Saturday Night! Can't wait. By the way I think everyone is being way too hard on the cd. Did everyone expect Bad Animals or Brigade? Seriously.

^^This. Of course, Dan has seen MUCH MUCH MUCH more than me in his lifetime, but it doesn't take much for your jaw to drop when Ann Wilson is on stage belting it out. I saw Heart 3 times last year and each time she sounded better and better. What a voice, most powerful after a long and successful career.

It's unfortunate that the album is already off the Billboard 200, but that's par for the course for a group such as Heart nowadays.

As a longtime fan, I am very pleased with "Red Velvet Car," and think it fits nicely with their '70s catalog. I think "WTF" and "Hey You" are instant Heart classics, and "Wheels," "Sunflower" and "Sand" are some of my other favorites. I loved "Jupiter's Darling" but I find this album to be different in terms of sonics and direction...it's much more focused and JD was much more all over the place, stylistically. And it's been nice to read all the positive reviews on the album.

For those that are into the '80s era of Heart and don't really get it, I understand. ("Brigade" is actually my favorite Heart studio album.) But personally I find the diversity in Heart's catalog to be one of their strengths. It's a pretty cool thing to be able to listen to albums like "Dog & Butterfly," "Private Audition" "1985 S/T" and "Red Velvet Car" and feel the diversity and the different styles.

I think this earthy, rootsy sound is comfortable for Ann and Nancy at this stage of their career, so good on them for going in the direction they desire to.

Live, the band is still fantastic. I've seen six shows in the past year and Ann and Nancy are still singing at a very high level and delivering energetic performances, and the band is pretty faithful to the material. For me, a Heart concert is ripe with lots of emotion and dynamics and other qualities I find to be lacking in other shows I've been to recently. (Only thing is I miss Howard Leese, and sure I could stand to hear songs like "Stranded" and "How Can I Refuse.")

Watch for a new DVD of Heart's show at the EMP in Seattle coming early next year...really cool show. And there were some rumors of some of their catalog being remastered. I think it's time the big three from the '80s -- "1985 S/T," "Bad Animals" and "Brigade" -- get the deluxe treatment with remastering, bonus tracks and possible live footage, so I hope that comes to fruition.

Heart performing "Barracuda" on "Dancing With The Stars":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwfc1WP4gw0

Definitely not a fan of the show so nice to Ann/Nancy & Co. class it up a bit, albeit with a truncated version of "Barracuda." (Still think that's an odd pick for a dance number...)

Nice performance, and Nancy was rocking the top hat and SG.... Seeing Heart on 11/13 in Las Vegas and can't wait...

I agree...if you frequently watched the show, you'd notice how ridiculous the dancers look trying to perform to some of these rock songs, for example, the number to Bat Out of Hell two season's ago

+1 to that!

There is enough dancing throughout the show for pete's sake. I find it distracting to the performance so I can imagine the performers might too maybe. Besides the camera keeps cutting to the dancers randomly. Seriously, can they not just give that 5 minutes fully to the acts? :? I guess Kylie Minogue had her own dancers so she got full face time. Would rather have seen the full Heart performance instead.

I agree that the focus was too much on the dancing, and not enough on the band...

I found this article...I thought the last sentence was interesting:

http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/10/ ... rah-palin/

Ann Wilson on singing Barracuda for 'Dancing with the Stars': 'I was disappointed Sarah Palin wasn't there because we would have dedicated it to her'

As surprising as it might have been for Heart fans to see Nancy and Ann Wilson perform on Dancing with the Stars Tuesday, it was equally as shocking for the two women – especially when they looked down to see the show’s professional hoofers moving to their distinctive beat.

“When would a rock band play for a ballroom dance?” Ann Wilson asked reporters afterwards. “When people used to dance to us years ago, it was in a tavern or at a high school dance. At first, we looked at each other and went, `Is this rock?’ And then we went, ‘Yeah, it is.’ It doesn’t matter.”

“This is a first,” says Nancy Wilson. “It’s wonderful because it’s a first. It’s sweet.”

It was the producers’ request that Heart perform Barracuda, and the ladies were happy to oblige. “It’s a powerful, gritty rock song, which is really what they wanted for rock week,” says Ann Wilson. “I was just disappointed that Sarah Palin wasn’t here to watch her daughter, because we would have dedicated it to her.”

Though she earned low scores on Monday, “teen activist” Bristol Palin remains a contender for the mirrored ball trophy on Stars.

The song Barracuda and Palin have quite a history. In 2008, the Republican National Convention played Barracuda when introducing Palin as John McCain’s running mate. At the time, Heart told reporters that the GOP did not seek permission to use the song, nor would it have granted permission. Heart also sent an exclusive statement to EW that read, “Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women … The song Barracuda was written in the late ’70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women.”

On Tuesday, Ann Wilson talked to reporters about how Barracuda is just as relevant today as it was when it was penned over three decades ago. “That song is just as full as angst as it was when it was written. That’s why that song stands the test of time. It’s just a screed. It’s a piece of angry flip out and that’s how it should be put across every time. That’s easy to do!”

Heart’s next gig is an acoustic performance at a Michelle Obama-hosted Democratic fundraiser. The duo have also booked a Brian Boitano skating special this Christmas. Yep, you read that right: They’re performing near ice this time!

“That will be another first,” says Nancy Wilson. “Instead of ballroom dancers, there will be ice skaters in front of the stage!”

Heart will then tour with Def Leppard next summer.

Wow, Heart with Def Leppard, that's a great ticket. Who's Journey going to get then? I can't imagine them not having an opening act if they're going back to playing full size arenas this summer.

Journey and a Mr Big ticket would be cool since they are going to be touring a new album (LOL just may see current Journey by default then). Heck, throw either Europe or Roxette in there too and ya can call it Herbie Herbert's Nightmare Inc. Reunion tour.
