Allegedly, the band got upset with Bach booking them as an opening act for KISS and booted him out (probably the last straw following a culmination of other things, primarily LSD), when they felt they themselves should be the headliner. I'm not a big fan so someone else can verify or deny this scenario.

Funny...Skid Row opened for KISS on their 2000 tour...Minus Bach..

Looking more into it, I read that the argument was even dumber than that... (according to the diva) they were asked to open for Kiss for a ONE off show (new year's, or something). Rachel was into some kind of side project band and didn't want to do it. I can see disagreeing over touring as an opener at that point in their success, but ONE show? If that's true (and no I don't believe everything I read...) then wow. Enjoy those state fairs, Rachel. One show with Kiss might have kept you from that.

But to argue it the other way... hey Diva, it's ONE show, if you love Kiss so much, well, hey - you can afford tickets.

In the late eighties Skid Row did not have a singer, but guitarist Dave Sabo was childhood friends with Jon Bon Jovi and the two had an agreement that if one of them made it big, they would bring the other one up with them. Bon Jovi made it big and still had full intentions of coming through on his promise. Bach was spotted singing at rock photographer Mark Weiss's wedding. Skid Row asked him to join which he first turned down. After hearing a demo tape of "Youth Gone Wild" and "18 and Life" he changed his mind. He sent them a demo of him singing the song Saved By Love. They loved it and flew him to New Jersey where they began playing gigs. Sebastian also recorded demos with Bon Jovi & Sabo's friend Jack Ponti. (The song She's On Top later came out on Jack Ponti Vol. 1)

In 1989, Bach was heavily criticized for wearing a t-shirt on stage that a fan had thrown to him before he could read it, with the slogan "AIDS Kills Fags Dead" emblazoned on it, (a parody of the insecticide ad slogan, "Raid: Kills Bugs Dead") after realizing what was on the shirt he reportedly took it off and threw it away. Although he made light of the incident in his original apology (stating that he would've been offended by someone mocking his grandmothers' then-recent death with a "Cancer Kills Grandmas Dead" shirt) Bach has since repeatedly apologized for and disavowed the statement, "That was really stupid and wrong for me to wear that for one half-hour in my life. What nobody brings up is in 2000, when I was in Jekyll & Hyde, and at an auction for Broadway Cares, I donated $12,000 of my own money to fight AIDS."[1]

In 1990, Bach performed with Guns N' Roses and Metallica, on the same stage, at a party held by RIP Magazine, the improvised name for the band was: The Gak.

Bach was eventually fired when he booked a show where Skid Row would have opened for KISS in 1996. Other band members told Bach that Skid Row was too big to be an opening act and that they weren't going to do the show. Bach then left a message on a bandmate's answering machine telling him that you're never too big to open up for KISS, and subsequently left the band.


I agree with the band for putting a stop to him booking for gigs for them, as that should be a group decision. But firing him was a bit over the top. Sounds like the culmination of years of putting up with a douchey diva. But I agree with Bach that you're never too big to open for Kiss. I also never knew that Youth Gone Wild and 18 And Life were done before he got in the band. He was the perfect fit for them.

I knew that story about Bon Jovi being friends with them. I won a call-in contest in the late 80's and was one of 3 people that had to sing LIVE on the air a verse from a Bon Jovi song. The winner was picked up in a limo, given an autographed guitar from the band and taken to the concert with carte blanche. They (the radio DJs) picked some stupid slut with 4 kids. But Jon said, on the air, that he liked my rendition best. He obviously has really bad hearing. We all had to sing "Shot through the heart and you're to blame, darlin' you give love a bad name."

LOL, oh I'm not arguing that. I recall seeing him on Canada's version of MTV (Muchmusic) years ago at the beginning of Skid Row and he was so pissed at the interviewer for lumping SR in with Poison that he got up, took his mic off and walked out. Definite diva behaviour.

My comment was more just a joke in general then anything. But most of the focus is on the LS. Of course pipes are my favorite instrument so yeah I'm an advocate. Hell, they carry most of the show on their shoulders, entertaining-wise also, and you miss/hit the wrong guitar chord and not many notice, but if the LS's voice cracks a tad and the whole place knows. I have a great appreciation for a God-given natural instrument.

I saw a youtube once, sometime back, where he was singing "O Canada" at the start of a Blue Jays game, or something. About fell out of my chair, it was so killer. Once he quits screaming out all that Youth Gone Wild business,:lol: that dude can soar.

Yes it was the issue of them not opening for Kiss that put the nail in the coffin...although Rachel and Bach had not been getting along at all. When they preformed Wasted Time live Rachel would go and sit on the drum risers and "sulk" as he was not a fan of the song..and hated playing it.

Bach is a diva....he has never made that a secret...and I agree that his solo work is not as great as it was with Skid Row.

I am hoping that this will be different....and well at least he is doing something...as my other
favorite seems to think about it a lot...but never puts anything out.

It was pretty entertaining, he IS a high maintenance kind of guy it seemed, always worried about his hair, etc. Funny to watch

Yes, loved it and was just thinking about that while reading the thread. What I saw in him was an insistence on control combined with a total lack of self-control, and an immature approach to music. He was almost Spinal-Tappish to the point of parodying rock -- all the stereotypes, but none of the substance. Notice the way he butchered Ted Nugent's song when he sang it -- Nuge was appalled. Bach was all about the stage presence, attitude, volume, and screams without the respect for the material. Maybe that's why he has such a hard time writing good solo material.

The best stuff he ever did was with Skid Row, where he had to work with very solid songwriters. Solo, he's like "Hey, I got Axl on these tracks! That makes them good!" He is an incredible talent, with one of the finest sets of pipes out there -- but he's just modeling clay, and needs a very good team about him to put it to good use. Returning to Skid Row would be the best thing for him.

Personally, I've met him twice and e-mailed back and forth with him a few times and always found him to be very friendly and cool. I think I caught him on good days, and am very glad I never showed up to one of his shows wearing a Metal Sludge t-shirt.
