There's a few standouts, but far too much filler. Did fans really wait years for a new J album to hear Ross sing? Neal was devoting all his time to Sirkus and it showed.

I think there were 5 outstanding songs: Faith in the Heartland, Place in your Heart, Out of Harms Way, Beyond the Clouds and Never too Late. Combine those 5 with Red13...give it better production and its a fine album.

let me modify that slightly.....combine those 5 plus A Better Life, some few re-written choruses of the Red13 material, and a producer to tighten it up, and it's a fine album. Might throw in "One World" from the Arrival sessions that was eventually released on the Mickey Thomas Over the Edge album also, which lyrically would fit in with the rest of the songs.

Not an excuse to release substandard crap to your fanbase. Plenty of acts out there are in real bad shape, (Meat Loaf comes to mind), and come new album time, they still give it their all. Generations fell short of the standard set by past albums by a long shot.

Well, actually I liked all of the Mickey Thomas songs penned for Arrival as well as the two Jack Blades used on his solo effort.

Yeh, but why should Journey outsource their strongest unused material when they barely had enough to fill Generations?

To allow someone with a good, healthy voice sing it?

I tend to agree. It appears Generations was thrown together at the last minute when it became obvious Augeri was going to try and release a solo album, and the band came in at the last minute with whatever was available.

maybe, but at least from a studio perspective, there was nothing wrong with his voice on Generations.

In that case, the band should have taken the songs from the TBF sessions and given them to someone else to sing. If you're gonna do an album, do it proper. This is Journey we are talking about.

That's where a producer comes in handy. Just because Styx can get away with having multiple singers (which is what started the "let's let everyone sing on the next album") doesn't mean that it works for Journey. Kevin Shirley or any other producer worth their salary would have nipped that one in the bud really quick.
