I can only believe that if I think you would have come up with this sort of "thinking" on your own/ And that's simply not the case. So, again, you didn't choose shit. You're doing what you're told.

Angel wrote: If I ever decide that I want to, I'll go to Starbucks and get some-I choose not to.

And I'm guessing this would happen, and only happen, if the cult you belong to abolished this rule. Then I bet you'd see Mormons lined up at Starbucks like Mexicans when Dave's Thousand Acre Strawberry Farm is hiring pickers. Tells me that none of you really think totally for yourselves. And I simply can't respect that. Though I can, and will, always respect good people. And you can certainly still be that. But you can also be a dopey follower at the same time.

Angel wrote: But you didn't answer my question. How does this hurt or even affect you in any way?

Because I figured if I ignored it that you'd realize it was a dumb fucking question. Looks like I gave you too much credit! Geoff the Albanian immigrant in L.A. that flosses with his cock hairs and uses dog shit as a mud mask isn't affecting me in any way, either. But that doesn't mean he's not a fucking creepy weirdo.

Then I suppose it's a good thing that I really don't care what you think of my choices. I have my reasons for practicing my religion and at the same time I try to be a god person. If you think less of me because of my decisions, so be it.

Dan and I went to a christian college. The rules there were the same even if the religion is not. Dan and I had no problem dealing with the codes of the school even though we were crazy for each other.

I am sure this is probably hard for someone who doesn't believe in waiting till marriage. But it all falls down to convictions right? I am sure some will never see this as reasonable, but it isn't a school for you is it?

If you go to a school with these codes of ethics, you need to abide to them, or switch colleges if you think you can't. Simple.

The college does not have to change its code of ethics if the religious school is following what the faith believes. On the contrary, a christian school that contradicts its very core of its beliefs would be hypocritical and would be called out for it. Then you would say what a bunch of hypocrites, they don't practice what they preach!

I am sure this is hard to understand unless you live this way. It would be like explaining to a martian about the facts of life and he does not have the same equipment as we do. It would be very strange to him now wouldn't it!

Remember women are from mars........................

Matt, you don't have the slightest clue what you're posting about. Athletes at BYU undergo a rigorous introduction on school policies when the are admitted to the school. In Brandon Davies case he grew up in Provo where BYU is located and played his high school ball across the street from the BYU campus. Brandon, more than most athletes that attend the Y, had a very clear understanding of both the rules and the culture. He screwed up, felt guilty, confessed, and will now experience a repentance process. Also consider that this may have not been Brandon's only run-in with the Honor Code and that he may have already been on a short leash. He hasn't been kicked out of school and will most likely be allowed back on the team next year. Brandon has handled himself admirably through this process and he will be a better man for it.

I personally feel that the administration of the Honor Code at BYU could use some adjustment. With that said the Honor Code helps create a very unique college environment that is not only appreciated by its LDS students but many non-LDS students who choose to attend. I never felt my college experience was lacking and consider my time there to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I don't care if the President of the World drafted the honor code and personally trained the students in it. The substance of the code is nutty eight hundred ways from Sunday.

Because after all having rules to govern behavior within religious parameters is a bad thing. BYU produces very productive members of society and most who have a clue would place said alumni in the plus column of life. Sounds like a system that works for a lot of people.

Tell me, what code do you live by that makes you so much more enlightened than LDS folks? Keep in mind that in spite of the LDS religions peculiarities most of its teachings are well within the judeo-christian ethic.

I was sent to Catholic school from K-12 (well I chose the HS for sports), but that was more than enough me. I used to be an easter/christmas catholic, but I'm not even that anymore. I honestly can't remember the last time I went to church even out of just accommodating my family on holidays. No one in my immediate family really kept up with the practice of Catholicism. Frankly, a lot of that was because of how shitty the Catholics were to us when we paid them to go to school.

I am overall a pretty damn conservative/traditional person and I do live my life with a lot of restraint and a lot of what I like to think is pretty solid moral behavior. I'm just not gonna countenance nutty stuff that tells you no tea or coffee or that consenting adults cannot have sex even in the context of a relationship.

Just to be clear, I think it's just as goofy that Catholics don't eat meat during lent, so I double my meat intake during lent. I also think kosher rules are goofy as fuck. I'm an equal opportunity discriminator, and I'll knock any goofy ass religious practices, whether it's the goofy stinky diaperheads, the arrogant Catholics, the tightwad Jews, or the polygamist Mormons

So the whole "Thou shalt not kill" thing is iffy to you?

Good lord this is funny shit... where do you think of this shit man?

Personal experience is my guess.

Yeah, that was a bit graphic to be an off the cuff statement. How is the mask thing working for ya Matt?

Guys, truthfully I know enough about both religious and non religious folks to know this. You don't have to understand anyone's religion to to respect them and their rights to believe. But I agree it is a two way street, if your not religious, I don't see the urge of some to force that understanding on them. I can try to explain it, but you might still not get it. Fact is, for the most part, what I like about a person is their character. Religion is a personal thing. And much like cutting someone's wife, or kid, it is the same to one of faith, maybe even more personal than that. Can you see what I am saying? Or are you from Uranus?

I got that.........but Matt....... she isn't asking you to convert now is she? She is just trying to explain to you what you seem to not understand in her way. I don't believe the same things she does, but I extend a personal respect to her to let her have her own way. I'll drink my coffee, and not offer her any if I know that is how she feels. No problem. It does me no harm that she thinks that way. I don't sit up at night plotting to poor coffee down her throat. LOL!

Maybe you and I can have a cup of Jo together and offer her a drink of her choosing. She can still be a nice person to hang with. That is all that truly matters to me.

To be candid with you, I could give a fuck what "The Honor Code" says or why it says it. Listen, I certainly understand, intellectually, that the kids who go to this prison, ahem, college know the rules when they sign up. That said, there are a whole lot of other FAR more important issues to worry about then whether the dweeb freshman is drinking a Starbucks coffee or bending his girlfriend over the coffee table!

I have tried drinking coffee in the past, and I just don't like the taste of coffee. And this happened before I became a mormon.

I do drink herbal tea though. :D

To each their own. If a private school wants to install onerous and overbearing rules, that is their prerogative. Not saying I agree with them, but that is their right. Especially if the students fully understand what is being imposed before enrolling.

Rules are rules. Today, nobody wants to obey rules. This is the "let me do what I want" era - 60s all over again? Seems most think rules are for everyone else by themselves, forgetting if EVERYONE ignored them, there would be complete and utter chaos. I digress.

If the guy didn't like the rules of the school, why did he enroll? Seems more and more people want things both ways. I find it refreshing someone finally has the nads to actually enforce the rules. Hear that NCAA and Ohio State?

By the way, how'd he get busted? Girlfriend pregnant? Video? Peeping faculty?
