Charile Sheen is donating $1 from each ($45-80) ticket sold for his two shows (Detroit and Chicago) to the effort.

I've heard there have been a lot of tweets and even some jokes comin' from the celeb community, it appears
that they aren't as apathetic as they were for Haiti ...

We're conditioned at a young age to feel guilt regarding the plight of black people (slavery, starving kids in Ethiopia, etc.), not so much with every one else.

Have heard from many, many friends in Japan. So glad they are ok, but things are tough over there. Thankfully the worst is over. Watching the news closely. Hoping for things to settle down there. Working on what to do to help......

Slash just played Osaka last night, but has cancelled his Tokyo and Yokohama shows. From his Facebook:

Do you think all is not truly forgiven, even though an ally, after WWII? My 11 year old daughter, who is the overly caring type normally. Normally emotional, about everything, asked me why our country is helping them, when they bombed Pearl Harbor. Because I guess they had learned about it in school. Which I explained it all to her. Not to mention the fact there are probably more Japanese in Hawaii now, than Americans or native Hawaiins. But I wonder, is this an American mentality in the adult world too? Or are there other reasons? Because it's not like they don't help any Asians. Look at Indonesia.Don wrote:We just blackballed the Japanese over the Toyota recall issue which, when after all the U.S. investigations were done found the problems to be not with the cars but with the drivers themselves. Of course the results were announced in a very low key manner and the damage to Toyota had already been done so why should a lack of American empathy in this situation be any surprise?

If anything, the Japanese should hate your fucking guts. Sure, they bombed Pearl Harbor. What you guys did was taking it to a whole new level. Fatman over Hiroshima and as well as a nuclear bomb over Nagasaki and not to mention the bombings of Tokyo. It did win the pacific wars though, but the bombings was a gay move.

I think it's more of an economic thing from the 80s where a lot of our economic woes were being blamed on the imbalance in trade with Japan. Even though the Japanese economy has been stagnant the last 20 years, they still made for a convenient whipping boy when our automakers were in trouble a few years back. There is probably a strong census here that the Japanese have enough money to take care of themselves so why should we help them.
Yeah, but tell that to some old WWII vets! They may have been forced to forgive in some cases, but they didn't forget. And i get war. Who is our friend one day are of course our enemies another day, and the other way around. I just wondered if there could still be some prejudices. That's all. I mean my grandfather fought them in the Philipines and then after was stationed in Japan, right after they surrendered. I can tell you ally or not, he did not care for them. They trained them to HATE them during the war. I just wonder if people still carry around old sentiments is all.Michigan Girl wrote:Oh geez ...!! Japan is one of our strongest allies!!
Don wrote:Even if all the reactors melt down, which they probably will, it won't be like the catastrophe that occurred with Chernobyl. It will be worse than our own Three Mile Island which is still bad but I doubt there will be an exclusion zone encompassing hundreds of square miles of land lasting for years like they had in Russia.
It's VERY obvious they are a strong people! They have that on their side. I have no doubt they can do it. I bet better than we could here! With how some Americans just expect hand outs and to have the government fix everything.Don wrote:The Japanese will recover from this whether we help them or not. They're economy will be down for a few months but once reconstruction starts, they'll rebound. I think Japan will think twice about all the Aid money they have been doling out abroad over the years, which I won't blame them for at all. I also expect to see their military increase a bit after this too as being a pacifist country using money as security blanket is no longer the end all it once was.

I thought we showed a tremendous amount of civility, humanitarianism and tolerance by not wiping them off the face of the Earth. But I don't expect someone from France to understand anything ... you probably ripped off your first fucking diaper and started waving it.
