Whitesnake touring the US?

Postby strangegrey » Sat Mar 19, 2011 8:44 am

Anyone know if Whitesnake is going to support the new album with a tour in the US?

If I remember correctly, your last experience with them was right before Coverdale had to call it a day on that tour, wasn't it? I hope he's in better voice now.

Yes it was...his voice was shot that night...a true disappointment.

Having said that, when his voice is on, there's only one guy that is a better singer...and last I checked, he's retired.

I get sick of the folks who've always claimed Coverdale was just a Robert Plant ripoff. Coverdale, in his prime, had more range and better tone than Plant ever had. I remember Joe Elliott saying something about taking some time out from recording to go listen to Coverdale do just about all his vocals in one take in the studio and walking away dejected because it would take him multiple takes to do his vocals.

The new album is a classic! Coverdale still has it, and Reb and Doug are off the hook! Guitars galore. Forget Schon/journey/Eclipse. Get 'Forevermore'.

On FB maybe a week ago they did announce a first leg in the US, and I looked at their site and they have US dates in May so far. Might be more US dates later in the year too.

Last moments of his performance at Red Rocks:

Joe Lynn Turner called him out for lipsynching some shows. That's his take anyway.

Even Plant has hinted that Coverdale was imitating him. I agree with you -- David has a much better voice than R.P. ever did, and man does he ever have some soul when he sings. He may not be hitting those highest notes anymore, but he sounds every bit as good as ever on the new material and just doesn't need to shriek to make the song these days.

Plant and Coverdale are very close in age....

Plants voice was fucking shot by 1981. Coverdale's still got his!
It may not be 100%, but it's a ton better than Plant's 21%.

Plus...Coverdale still wants to rock. Take a look at what plant is doing these days and try not to laugh. Plant should start a band with Coverdale's freak former bandmate, Richie Blackmore.

I just saw the new vid on VH1 Classic a few minutes ago...Cool song but I came from it with 2 observations...

1. David Coverdale might be a bit older than 60 as Wikipedia suggests...

2. Reb is barely in the video...I know Doug plays lead on the song, but I was surprised to see him get the least amount of screen time.

When I saw the video, I noticed that Reb was almost always "in the shadows" and started wondering whether that actually was him in the video or whether he was unavailable for filming and they used a stand-in while having him intentionally lit very poorly so you wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't Reb.

Has there been any news about who will be replacing Timothy Drury on keys?

I have pre-ordered Forevermore on Amazon. Hope it lives up to billing. Would love to hear something with the vigor of Whitesnake's version of Burn from their "Live...In the Still of the Night" offering. It rocks much harder than any previous version from Deep Purple, perhaps due to having two guitars rather than one. That's the kind of stuff I am looking to hear. Harder rocking with lots of guitar.
