By the way, as a single it won't sell. Has NOTHING to do with the quality of the music. If you think it does, look at the current charts, they BLOW. Great, hard rocking song. Thanks Journey for not whimping out on us!

I actually disagree about it not charting. There are so many charts now in so many genres it's nigh on impossible for COH not to be ranked somewhere, be it adult pop, adult rock or some other chart. Yeah, it may not sell well as a single but depending what chart it's on the competition may be in the same boat.

I like it quite a bit. The lyrics are totally current for what's going on in the world today. Usually, Journey is about relationships. It's nice to hear them talking about current events. I WISH they'd left out "State of Grace" not cuz it's lame, but just cuz they've used it so much.

I think it's a great song.

Knowing how much you liked Revelation, this isn't a surprise.
And yes, I already saw your critique on WITTW but as EVERYONE thinks that sucks, you get no points there.

What the hell's wrong with it??? It's a killer song and the band didn't take the usual route. I don't understand the problem. It has a killer guitar solo, great chorus. It's not Separate Ways, but it's a great, rocking tune....

I think it's great that the band continues to make new music for us, however, I think the days of expecting a Journey album to blow up the charts are long over. As long as there is something there I can enjoy and they still have great live shows, I'm happy.

If Human Feel becomes a Number One Hit Song, I will laugh by butt off. And Phil Collins will sue.

Very pedestrian sounding affair.

SERIOUSLY? You'd rather have the whimpy ballady stuff that was on that album? There were some great songs on there, but here were SO many PEDESTRIAN ballads....

Oh well, Journey fans will never be pleased. I like it.

NP: Arrival - so good. It all went downhill after that one.

Listen to Higher Place - bam! Jumps out of the gates and grabs you instantly.

City of Hope is more of Generations basically. Or JRNY doing a John Farnham b-side.

Nothing's really WRONG with it beyond the repetitiveness and a few lines where Pineda sounds like he has marbles in his jaws.
At the moment, I think Chain Of Love and Edge Of The Moment sound better.

Phil, I know you have some free time now that you aren't drumming anymore, but try to find a hobby. Other than dropping the "Human Feel is actually Land of Confusion" in every thread.

Chain Of Love is the sleeper so far. Great song harkening back to the band's creative days doing cool stuff like Dream After Dream. Good stuff there.

In fact, I don't think City of Hope sounds anything like JRNY at all and that's a big problem. It could have been any melodic rock act signed to Frontiers pretty much, except for in the end where you hear it's Neal. They're treading water big time in the songwriting dept - and have lost their mojo, imo.

Could that be it?

This is the issue with Arnel....he still has some diction problems. When Steve was doing his vocal gymnastics you could always tell what word he was singing....I hear Speak lessons...but if it is Speak, it can't be horizons. I also hear tough love and faith. But it very well could be tough love and pain....

After listening to it nearing 50 times, I'm cooling down on my liking of it. I find it very repetitious. And the lyrics, although positive and uplifting, leave me kinda flat....the best part of the entire song is the music structure. I love that part of it. 100% of that front.

Perry's diction wasn't perfect. I couldn't always get every word he sang without eventually reading the lyric to find out. Not only Perry, either. Lots of great popular singers are not easily understood. I don't think this can all be pinned on the pinnoy, really. I'm sure some of the singers here can attest to this.

As hard as it is to purchase, I'm sure it won't chart. Self fulfilling prophecy. Still, a great song. By the way, if you look at the sort of songs that do chart....well, I hope Journey never charts again! Unless music starts charting once again.

Still a sleepy and ungodly expensive little burg! A lot more comfortable than Russia and Saudi Arabia where I was before here, so no complaints. JWC has a good English radio station, I think. Did you enjoy it here? I plan to see Journey somewhere in Europe while I'm in the neighborhood...how cool is that!

A great place to be for single folk who enjoyed music back in the day as there were some nice rock clubs and plenty of pretty gals.

Ironically enough, I became a fan of both Iron Maiden and Journey at around the same time period in my life. :D

Anywho, the single probably won't be do well on charts, but I've been wrong before.

I musta listened to that line 20 times. I tried cleaning it up with a couple of programs but the fact it's the audio ripped from a YT vid seriously degraded the quality so it didn't do much good. All I could really do is de-hiss it a little bit. That said, this is what I hear:

Where the streets speak the lessons of trouble, hope and pain.

Re: Arnel's diction...
I'm not convinced it comes into play in this particular instance. There are so many songs over the years I've been guilty of singing misheard lyrics to and then heard someone else singing the correct lyrics or I read them, and more times than not, when I go back and listen to the part of the song in question armed with the correct lyrics, they come through plain as day. In those cases, I blame my brain for not hearing what was actually said. The pisser is when you don't find out until years later you've been singing the wrong lyrics. It's almost impossible to stop yourself from singing them incorrectly anymore! I's still pissed at myself for learning part of the lyrics to Still They Ride wrong. For some reason I heard, "...on wings of fire. They rule tonight".

Close to what I said - I thought it was 'teach' instead of 'speak'. But I just listened with a 'voice emphasis' option and I think you are correct!

Really enjoying City of Hope. Great song. I had a chance today to listen to it several times. Regarding comparisons to HP I read on here, I like it better than Higher Place. Though, it's not as good as World Gone Wild. What a song. WGW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpZVulDvwyY

Same for me. I like it fine, but others on here seem to love it. I place World Gone Wild and Livin' to Do and many others on Arrival far above it.

And ya know, after reading what you had suggested, my brain sorta wanted it to be "teach" rather than "speak" because one teaches lessons, they usually don't speak them. It reminds me of when the cell phone vids of AATY were posted from the Vegas concert. We had pretty much nailed all the lyrics and everyone was in agreement with the exception of this line: "Make a livin' up and down the gypsy highway..." Soooooo many people were just absolutely positive it was "Dixie Highway" because they wanted it to be, for obvious reasons - even though using Dixie rather than gypsy would render the sentence senseless. Revelation didn't drop for another 3 months after that before we could get verification. Ahhhhh, memories.

Me too!! I'm not wild about Higher Place either. I'm with Jana, I love World Gone Wild, but it's #2 to Livin' To Do. Love that song!! From Revelation it's Change for the Better, What I Needed and Why Did I Lose Your Love. I also love Faith in the Heartland and gotta go with the original. I don't think I could list them, since they do change a bit!!! COH is moving up since it's definitely catchy and I've had it stuck in my head all day. I'm still waiting for the rest of the new songs.

I like a lot of the post-Perry stuff, some not so much. Live and Breathe at the moment is my fav Augeri-sung title and Where Did I Lose Your Love is hands down my Fav Arnel title. WDILYL hooked me the very first time I heard it. It has so many layers to it and Deen is just bombastic on that track. I really like COH so far. It's got a lot of the things I like going on in it. Can't wait to hear some more of the still unplayed stuff!
